Hi Scotty,
I had a question about acephate. I use to have a pesticide license in Georgia and Tennessee in catagory 24 which is for ornamental and turf. Iwas wondering if you spray your plant with acephate in veg and get rid ofthe target pest and once the pest are gone if you were to defoliate theleaves from the plant if this would help to get the systemic acephate outof the plant any faster? I had root aphids and fungus gnats. The problem stemmed from my window ac unit. It wasn’t tilted right so the water wasn’t dripping out like it should so it caused fungus gnats and then the root aphids. Anyway once I realized that’s where they were coming from I corrected the problem. I am in a non friendly state and there is no grow stores around. Im limited to what lowes or home depot or walmart carries unless i order it online. Let me also say that im handicapped and must rely on my wife to drive me around. I tried some of everything (yellow sticky traps, malathion, avid, green cleaner, triazacide, bayer tree and shrub imid, and finally used bonide systemic to get rid of them. I figured if I threw them out them I might as well try something to kill the root aphids . I only just heard you talking about met33 yesterday when I was listening to the back episodes of dude grows show. I really enjoy the show btw and thanks for all of the great grow information.
Ps. I don’t know if you have noticed the outrageous prices on amazon for tanglefoot ($75 – $100). It’s because bayer bought out the tanglefoot company so there’s none being produced right now. My wife spoke to the people at bayer and they are supposed to come out with something in a year or so but you know how that goes.
Let me know what you think. Thanks,
Meanybud
Yo I know this was a question for Scotty so I’ll be brief and let Scotty answer. I’m a licensed lawn and ornamental pest tech currently getting ready this morning for work so I’m still in the biz. Acephate is a filthy nasty in the canna world so is amidiocloprid. If you already used imidiocloprid that’s a systemic and will be in your plant 3-4 months. Same with acephate! What I would recommend is to keep that plant as a mother and do not take cuts from her for 3 months and be sure to veg cuts for at least another month. Mind you if u retreat restart your clock! Anytime these products are used on edibles they immediately turn into ornamental plants! Your fruits are now decorations on the tree and not for consumption. Defoliation of the leaves isnt going to speed the process because it take about 30 days for it to fully go through the the plants system and it isn’t just in the leaves but roots and stems and continues to be pushed into the cells that are developing during the next 3 months. So better it be in veg growth than in flower.
