So I have 2 hlg 550 v2 in a 4×8 tent. I wanna add in some red to help with the spectrum also to run at the end of the light cycle for the Emerson effect. Hlg had a red strip but it’s been sold out the last few times I’ve looked. Anyone have any experience with supplemental red leds?

Just saw it was back in stock. Also rapid has an emerson effect board and the individual leds to diy your own. Also the grow mou5 pucks to easier control the effect. Im just using old blurple to supplement my 680nm and even has a couple 730nm on there. Just no controlling the emerson effect yet. But a puck should be easy to incorporate once you get the 680nm spectrum incorporated.
Yes i got the two systems combined oops. Thanks Doc Brown. Emerson effect increases photosynthesis and flower initiation putting the plant to sleep faster[longer dark periods than normal grow lights so can increase light on period an hour or 1.5 hrs.] Similar if you’ve ever heard dj short mention better expression with 11/13 light cycle, that longer dark period which can be reduced with the flower initiation far red that allows plant to receive more lighting hours but plant sleeps the same amount no tossing and turning for 2 hours just lay down for 15 minutes and your out.
Yeah I kinda fucked up when typing it out the first time lol!! I do know that the 750nm is ment to be ran the full 12 hours to toss a little spectrum in there. Especially using an all white led that every led companie better b making now, otherwise they might as well close the they company down if they only gonna make bluper shit!!! Some blupers are somewhat ok?? But u get what u pay for!! So just do ur self a favor n get a nice DIY kit!! If u know u fuck it up there hella deals!! HLG just had a sale of hlg 550 v1. Who give a shit if it’s the old motel??? $600 fucking bucks can’t beat that!! Now those new HLG got the red strips built in now so that makes me a bit salty cuz I literally just got 2 new 550 March 25th 🤦♂️ fml no matter what it always happens like that!!! So here my ? Sorry I went on for ever about nothing gg4 live resin Will do that! So my idea is get the 2 flower initiators From rapid LED. So should I stick em right to my HLG 550s. Put it right in the center? That’s what hlg said to do with their hlg 35 n that’s way bigger n hotter. Any other ideas? Also was looking at the same board that @justintimetogrow had from rapid. I believe it is the Emerson exotic board? Does anyone have any luck with the? @growmau5 punks r fucking dope!!!!!! But I literally just got 2 brand new 550s! So can’t afford a whole puck set up!! I got 880watts in my 4×8 tent. Really want some both reds! Help sleep and help bulk up. I know this was a super super long fucking message but there someone out there that can help big time!! Maybe got some used lights, maybe just the best tips in the world whatever I’ll take it 😉😉 thank you 🙏
Try looking at this chanzon leds(shipped from the USA) they have 660nm 5 or 10 watts pucks that you build your own light with and drivers for the same. And the same for 730nm (my mistake before calling them 750nm). I used a 1-50watt, 50 watt driver and a small heat-sink because of the short time that i run it. I built my own and they do work and not that hard to put together. I used 10- 660nm 5 watts with a 50 watt drive on 2.5×48 inch heat-sink from heatsinkusa.com total cost was under $100. Which you could split them for about (5 and 5) for the same money, With a little soldering you could save alot.
Yes the 660nm(red) does helps during lights on. 750nm( far red) turning on just before lights out helps with putting the plants into the rest or sleep period. To use the far reds I have mine set to come on about 5 to 10 minuets before and to go off about 10 to 15 minuets after lights off. Which in turns shortens flowering length by any where from a few days to about 10 days depending on the strain. All of this is depending on how much you add to the lights.
The Emerson effect is created when both photo and far red are run DURING lights on. The controller is used to turn off the photo red and leave the far red on when the lights-on period ends to help put the plants to sleep. This far red is also known as a flower initiator and will speed up flowering. Check out rapid led as Justcoolin mentioned. Just to clarify the Emerson effect is different from flower initiating. The Emerson effect applies when the lights are on. The flowering initiator with the far red applies when the main light goes off.
Thank you for clearing that up for me!!!! Doc Browns Green Thumb I know they were different just didn’t know y!!!! So thank u friend
Also, since you said you wanted to run the light at the end of the light cycle I assume you are looking for flower initiation, not the Emerson effect. You can buy a flower initiation light for 40 bucks from rapid led on Amazon. You can simply put this on a separate timer and have it come on as mentioned tinker mentioned.
The plants can tell when it’s time to sleep if you’ve ever been in early or came in late you can tell your plants will know what time it is it’s just another hype hlg are good enough as is honestly
So the plants may look droopy before lights out but they r still not (sleeping for usually at least an hour or 2 after lights out. Running red along for 15 min after lights out is proven time n time again that they will (sleep) within a half hour when using red only last 15 min. Without the red can take up too 2 hours fall (asleep?? So they do work very well!!! Save on average 5-7 maybe even 10 days off ur flower time
Just think about nature fall evenings will have that far red spectrum in it more than any over time of the year.
Completely agree that absolutely the plants know when to go to sleep. The far red tricks them into doing it much sooner. You’re right, there’s a lot of hype in cannabis growing. However, this isn’t one of those things.
