Hello DGC!! I’m new to growing only have one harvest under my belt. Been learning heaps from y’all!
Anyway I harvested my first crop a few months ago and the smell/taste were not to my liking. I’m positive the speedy dry time played a big factor. I live in a dry area where RH is usually around 30%. I was able to optimize the temps while drying but couldn’t get the RH up. I was too paranoid about the bud to run a humidifier in my dry tent. This time, I’m thinking about going for it… or am I playing with fire?
(Pic is some nugs from my first harvest, sadly a herm😅)
i would try hanging some damp towels in the room or buckets of water.. humidifiers aren’t the only things that bring up rh.. soaking some towels and wringing to a dampened state, with a fan blowing on it, with the bottom of the towel in a bucket of cold water, so it acts like wick. good luck
I to live in a dry area. I use a humidifier . I don’t use it until they have dried somewhat though. As soon as the humidity starts dipping down below 50, I intermittently use the Humidifier. A lot of them have setting control on them. I am using ozonator water currently. I have not tried using anything when I’m drying my actual weed though. I would just keep it really clean. It’s really all about getting in There and checking on it often. I find I am changing things all day long. Don’t point the humidifier on the plant matter.
You can do that if you have it hooked to a thermostat and use a fan to blow it away from the hanging buds. An evaporative humidifier is better than the cool mist, but do what you gotta do and keep moisture off the buds.
Would be better if you can use the humidifer outside the tent and draw it in with a fan. I live in a similar environment and use the evap in the tent along with a fogger outside the tent and no problem here.
Demineralized water is preferred.
I have a stone drain for my succulents, about 1 ft by 4 ft by 2 inch. I fill it with water and put a fan ion it. Also use the towel method. I’m adding a baby’s room humidifier this year. If you’re at 30% I would definitely add a humidifier.
60 degrees at 60% RH for 14 days and it can go right in the jar. Figure a month of daily quick burping and you’ll have nice tasting flower. Longer is great too in the cold/humid if you can pull that off. I had a grow for 20 days like that (give or take) and it went right in the bowl just fine and it still tastes great.
Seal a room with AC and add fans plus humidifier and you should be able to get it close. A CoolBot may be needed if your system freezes up or if you can’t get to the 60 degrees.
Great advice above! Have you tried hanging the entire plant or bigger sections of it after you chop? If you’re struggling with humidity, this is one other way to help slow down the dry-out. Even leaving ALL the fan leaves on for the early hang can slow things down. I use cardboard boxes I doubt and fill them with large sections of plants hanging on wires I strung across them. All that plant material in the boxes raises the humidity and has helped me slow the dry down. I quit using a tent. The room I put the boxes in is usually 40%- 50% naturally. I could usually get a 10 day hang before branches started to get snappy. Just another trick if you can’t get your humidity optimal. I worry about running a humidifier inside a tent with drying buds because moisture COULD get on the buds; but if you have a big tent, it’s prolly less of a problem. Ideally, you’d want your humidifier adjusting your lung room instead of directly inside a drying tent.
Good luck!!

If you mess up during the dry and you still have moisture in the buds when you jar then you will kill off the smell/taste like you say. Could just be the genetics too. I’ve had plenty of shit that looks fire yet have like no terps. Just throwing shit out there to see what sticks.
