Hey Everyone,
Does anyone else have springtails out the ass? These guys are everywhere under the mulch but never do I see them… until I water. Then it turns into a scene from Titanic. I know they like moist but they must hate wet. Some of these are huge are these pregnant females? They definitely spring inches away when I touch them. They are all over but then within a few hours after watering they all go back under the mulch. Can’t find anything about having too many being a bad thing. They help break down organic matter so for me it works great for top dress feeding.
They’re not typically a problem but if you have a soil or mulch layer that’s staying too wet, their population can explode with a lot of decaying organic matter without larger predators to control them. If the plants are healthy I wouldn’t worry but you may want to water a little less to see if they get under control.
I water about every ten days but my mulch layer is thick and doesn’t ever loose moisture. They must love the wet straw.
I don’t see an issue with them. They are an indicator species as far as I’m concerned.
Lively arenβt they?
I think I have them too, I’m not a fan of bugs, they make my hair twitch, I prefer not to have them run around my house, does anyone know if they end up everywhere in your house
