What’s up DGC anyone know of or use this product with coco? I stumbled upon it looking for a more affordable silica additive on Amazon. I currently use Rhino Skin from AN which is soluble potash derived from potassium silicate. But for 42$ for a 1 liter… And Amazon has GH silica for 20$ or this Azomite for 20$ for 5 lbs. Anyway. I saw it helps with cal mag as well. Any tips or info if this is good with coco and cannabis?? Thanks DGC
I have the exact box / product. I’ve used it in soil and a peat based coco mix, so I haven’t tried it in straight coco. It is a good tool to amend soil with, adds loads of micronutrients, but you don’t need these often or in large amounts. So I treat it as a supplemental and haven’t used it more than 2-3 times per cycle. It’s not meant for quick results.
Are you open to using liquid silica products? There are many out there and they fall into your price range, I use a botanicare Silica
thanks for the reply. I went ahead and got the box but havent added it to my indoor yet. i amended my outdoor veggie garden with it. I currently use liquid silica by advanced nutrients Rhino skin. may look into the botanicare. Thanks Brotha
Yo! Fog here…. I’m not sure how diatomaceous earth would tend to fair in the coco. But it is a great (and I believe a natural) form of silica, bug pre vent tion, and I also believe there’s some calcium break down, aluminum, and iron in there not exactly sure. But I use it for my soil!
hey bud, thanks for the feedback. yea i think ill just use it for outdoor soil. i mixed with water and its pretty clumpy and i cant see that going through the coco if not mixed well. i was trying to look into super coco?? if that makes sense… instead of a super soil can you make a super coco?? water only with dry amendments?
I would love to know that too! I actually have a super soil, or pre amend soil question myself, I’m using roots Organics Terp tea dry amendments grow and bloom as my base, I’ve been top dressing. But any advice of the ratios to preamend? I just transferred three sly walker ogs into 3 gallon pots with ff soil, DE, worm casting, and espon salt , I decided to pre amend also with the grow part of the dry amends at 1 tsp per gallon. If I put them in flower in a week or two will the dry amends be broken down enough to where I won’t have any like nitrogen toxicity when going into flower? Will I have to feed veg nutes the first two weeks of flower like usual? Should I have pre amended with both grow and bloom in different ratios? Super coco would be tight as heck. I think this guy on the tube you makes his own super coco his name is mr canucks but I’m not 100% sure
I put it in my soil. But I don’t really know how it works out. It don’t kill it.
Azomite is a mineral rich rock dust. It’s rich in micronutrients that your plants need in small amounts. The idea with products like this is to help ensure your soil has all the essential micronutrients needed for plant growth. It doesn’t have a ton of anything in it, its more like a blend with very small amounts of lots of different minerals.
It probably has some silica in it, but I would not consider it a major source of silica or a replacement for a silica product.
As far as using it with coco, I would be cautious and would maybe skip it.
Azomite is intended to be blended into natural soils and potting mixes to add micro nutrients. With coco, you are typically adding micro nutrients via your liquid fertilizers, so adding them to your media too might cause an overdose of something. This could cause lockouts, overfeeding or other imbalances.
A better use for this product would be using it as part of a soil mix, or to improve the micro nutrient content of an existing soil mix. I don’t recommend using it with straight coco, especially without adjusting your normal feeding program to compensate.
Another thing to note… most soil nerds kinda consider azomite to be a fairly low quality input. It’s better than nothing, but there are definitely better alternatives. Basalt and other higher quality rockdusts are generally considered a better source of micronutrients for high value crops like cannabis.
Soup is the man!!
Huge thanks SOUP! Very informative and good to know. Ill just keep it for my outdoor this fall. Thanks again.
What are the better ones?
Azomite is actually very silica-rich. About 68%. Check the certificate of analysis on their international (not US) website.
Huh? Basalt has way less nutrients than Azomite.
