Hey Dude, Scotty, and the DCG! N.E. Nugz here with more learning curve activity on my second grow … Details: 2 Jack Herer Auto Feminized plants that are just into week 5 of flower in a 2 x 2.5 Gorilla Grow tent using a Closet Case, in 5 gal. fabric pots with Fox Farm Ocean Forest; they have a nice breeze from a small fan when the lights are on (18/6). Been watering about every 3 days with 6.3 pH adjusted tap water (after sitting overnight to gas out the chlorine). For the past 2 weeks I have been feeding them Fox Farm Tiger Bloom 1.5 tsp + 2 tsp Big Bloom + 1 T BSM per gallon, giving each plant about 1/2 gal each (and, of course, 3/4 tsp + Recharge) once a week. I stopped using Optic Foliar Overgrow in week 4 of flower. Temps are 75 day/65 night, RH is 45%. No CO2. Recently, some of the newer upper growth developed brown spots and an overall yellowish cast – sorry that the pic has some LED light interference (I think) that look like jail cell bars – I took the shot with my phone. What you see is not present everywhere, just on some of the newer upper growth leaves and a few lower leaves that have direct light exposure. I am very much a noob, so I’m not sure what’s going on – Calcium deficiency? Too many nutes? Multiple nutrition issues? Nothing at all? I just flushed both of them yesterday with about 10 gallons of water (each plant) with 1/2 strength nutes in pH 6.1-ish water – the first run off was about 5.8 pH @ 1400 ppm (EC x 700); final run off was 6.1 pH @ 840 ppm (EC x 700), which makes me suspect there was some salt buildup (?). I’m hoping that this will help the situation, but I’m puzzled as to what the “situation” was (or is) – what do you guys think? As always, thanks for the help ! T-minus one week before we are no longer a prohibition state here – fuck yeah! 🙂
Brown Spots and Yellowing on Newer Leaves During Week 5 of Flowering?

She looks hungry. If its only a few leaves then I wouldnt stress, just give them a well balanced feeding and keep an eye on it.
Makes sense to see things like this in week 5 as thats typically when they are gobbling up lots of food while they are building buds. Don’t over do it though, as anything you feed in now will likely need to be flushed out before harvest. You also probably want to stop using Recharge fairly soon, as the microbes will act like a buffer and store nutrition, which could complicate your final flush. I think Scotty usually says to cut out Recharge around week 5.
Airflow is just as important at night if not more so. If your circulation fan is only running during the day, you might want to change that so its running 24/7
and yeah those “jail bars” are electrical interference from the Closet case. Kinda annoying when taking pics, but they are the ONLY draw back I’ve noticed with my Closet case. Its otherwise pretty much the perfect led for a small grow.
Thanks, Soup! I’ll get a night time breeze going and lay off the Recharge now.
That brown spotting is typical of calcium and magnesium deficiencies. They look similar but magnesium tends to have more yellowing with the brown spots like I see in your pic while calcium alone will have a greener leaf with the brown spots.
Thanks, Jmystro! I really have a tough time matching images of various deficiencies/excesses that I see on the Internet with what I’m seeing in my plants – maybe because more than one thing could be going on at once, and you’ll never find an exact match. Still learning, but the DGC is awesome at assisting there!
Do you think a Cal-Mag additive, in addition to my flowering Fox Farm regimen, is in order, or just feed as I usually do? Thanks!
I would add some cal-mag in addition.
That looks like a Cal/Mag deficiency. I would add some type of Cal/Mag additive
This be on EP 329 FYI. Thanks!
