Whats goin on DGC!? Was hanging in the garden this morning thinking about switching to flower in a couple weeks and got curious about some Build-A-Soil products. SOUP has recommended the Build-A-Flower top dress kit but has anyone used the Build-A-Bloom powdered amino acid or used them together?
Not running any neuts other than my amended soil, RECHARGE, Optic Foliar OG, and AACTs. Ive heard about Mammoth P, now URB which are expensive and was thinking of just getting both Build-A Soil products for $50 instead of getting a small $60 bottle of Mammoth P. What do you guys think? All the products recommended so far have shown results in 24 hrs from RECHARGE, Optic Foliar OG, and my new HLG260W so thanks for that!
The top dress it’s ewc fish compost and some minerals making that layer of goodness to seep through the medium. The other is an amino acid you add to watering. Chelates and nitrogen in protein form no work for the plants. Both if you can swing it. Top dress in more crucial than aminos. Not sure if you’ve checked out the simplified schedule under the blog section on buildasoil but videos and spreadsheets galore lots of walk you through it information.
I’ve checked out the simplified Build-A-Soil schedule that’s what kind of lead me to this question. I guess simply said I’ve got $50-60 to spend and kinda leaning towards both BAS products over 1 additional microbe product other than Recharge that’s more expensive.
Shit load of microbes in that earth worm casting, fish compost, and like three other compost in that build a flower mix. Probably millions upon millions of different microbes in all that. I got the brew pack 30$ 6 different compost to make my own build a flower and to make compost tea (multiply my own microbes). I hear ya about wanting to add microbes. Ive bought the terpene enhancing 60+ strains SB pro but didn’t do side by side or anything like that. Originally 40+strains were used for farm ag but the others harvested from hemp roots most likely and now only push cbd claim. Not sure if that’s legal or another reason. Just not a lot of people representing. If it’s mammoth then the science is there frees up phosphorus and micronutrients sample bottle size is the way to go there. I think they even sell that as a size. I hear ya on the mula i try to spend like 20 bucks every couple of weeks to build up my grow supply closet stuff adds up fast.
That’s what I’m tryin to do just spend a little every week build up a supply. Trying to get an idea of products I can use for multiple applications like teas and topdress instead of the $60 couple drops a gal deal. Think I’m going with SOUP again top dress kit and agsil although I’m not real sure how to use silica.
Urb looks like a watered down recharge. They name a specific bacillus subtilis species but probably in recharge and if not the compost will really boost microbe life. Mammoth isn’t necessary just a nice addition down the road. 50$ is a lot to spend on a couple drops a week. Will last a while but maybe an investment for a later date. I just gambled and bought off ebay lol sealed and seemed legit.
Just so everyone is one the same page…
Build a flower = a top dressing kit from build a soil
(contains a blend of composts and a blend of dry organic amendments and minerals)
Build a Bloom = New Bloom Booster product by build a soil
(Amino acid bloom booster. Its 2-10-5 NPK with 2% Calcium)
Personally I would get the build a flower topdress kit, some cover crop seeds and some agsil 16h silica. Then if theres money left over in your budget, spend it on an air pump and make yourself a little 5 gal tea brewer to make your own microbial inputs.
Google “mini microbulator” or check out the premade ones on the build a soil website for an idea of what im talking about. They are really easy to build yourself and the plans are free online. Just a bucket, an air pump and a few parts from the hardware store plumbing department.
With a little airlift brewer you can make lots of cool stuff like kelp +alfalfa tea, sprouted seed teas and compost teas. The build a flower kit works great for compost tea too.
Hey Soup, just wanted to say thank you for all of the info you give out on organic gardening. I’ve been reading it all and, as you’ve suggested many times, making a plan. Currently running through my bottles while I put that plan together. Little comments like this are scattered all over the site and because of you and guys like Asmos (shout out to the guy hidden in the woodworks), the organic info on DGC.com is worth the $10 on it’s own. Anyway, this green crack has me wired! haha much love, man!
Happy to help! 🙂👍
I have a 5gal tea brewer I made just a pump, air stone, bucket and I bungee my seedling mat to it to warm it up. I had planned on usuing the build a flower in my next brew actually. Interested in that kelp and alfalfa tea though! Have a good recipe and how should I use the agsil? Thanks again for the great info!
How often do you use the build a bloom? Something you use during watering?
Lots of great info about both on the build a soil site.
Check the “how to use” section on the agsil page for great directions.

Kelp alfalfa tea is really easy. 1-2 cups alfalfa and 2 tablespoons of kelp in 5 gal of water. bubble for 12-24 hours. I think there’s a more detailed recipe on the buildasoil page about alfalfa.
