Hey Dude and Scotty, After my last harvest I had a lot of trim and popcorn bud left over and, not having any equipment for making wax or shatter, decided to use it to make canna butter instead. I followed this slow cooker recipe and ended up with about 3/4ths a pound of really dark green, smelly butter. I then decided to use this brownie recipe and followed it to the letter. The brownies were good, but had almost no effect on me or anyone I gave some to try. A girlfriend eventually got frustrated and take an entire row of the 9×13 inch pan over eh course of an evening and wound up lit up. The question is, where do you think I messed up? The butter is obviously potent, but not near what I’d expect considering I let it cook for 24 hours in a slow cooker. I liked that brownie recipe and would make more, but you could taste the small amount of butter I put in there, and if I had to go big with it to make the brownies potent in small doses I worry that they’d taste so bad no one would want to eat them? Edibles are still illegal in my state so this is my first experience with them and I’m not sure how much of the dank you’re supposed to be able to taste. Do either of you have experience with edibles (outside of Scotty’s predilection to seemingly eat too much of them in one sitting). If I want to make really good, potent butter in the future, what would you suggest? -Dudefella PS: Picture of the butter is attached

I wish I could help ya out man :/ however, I tried doing the same thing a few months back and didn’t do nearly as good as you. I cant make brownies in the first place so I should try practicing that before making special brownies lol. Did you de-carb the trim and all the popcorn nugs before adding it to the slow cooker?
I’m not familiar with the slow cooker method you used, but I have had great success with using ABV (already been vaped) bud and a simple double boiler (pyrex bowl over boiling pot). For best texture I use a mortar and pestle to turn the material into smaller bits or even powder. So far my best results on the double boiler is:
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup hazelnut spread (Nutella)
8 grams ABV material, finely ground (about 8 loads in a Pax)
Melt the two cups of *nut butter together, once it starts getting runny add in the material and stir well. Poor into a clean quart size jar with a sealing lid and allow to cool.
To serve, spread the mix on anything that chocolate and peanut butter would go with. My personal favorite is in a sandwich with banana slices.
*Pro tip: Allow the bowl to cool enough to not burn your fingers or tongue when cleaning it.
Hey LtCmndr,
I make cannabutter with my slow cooker and it’s worked out well. A couple of things you can check/ try to see if you get better results.
1. I typically make chocolate chip cookies and the recipe calls for a 1/2 lb of cannabutter. I use all cannabutter and do not dilute it with any regular butter. This will keep your potency up. If your trim is still green, then you may notice slight hints of clorophyll flavor, but I think it is somewhat pleasant. If you use dried trim you may notice more earthy flavors.
2. Use a food processor to finely cut the trim and you will get more potent butter. You can strain the butter with a cheese cloth after it is done.
3. When using a large crockpot it is best to do larger batches. I will typically make 4 lbs at a time. The reason is the crockpot is better at regulating temperature for larger batches of food. If you have a small amount of liquid in a large crock, then it can sometimes overheat and overcook, especially if you are running it for 24 hours. I run mine for about 20 hours, but only with large batches (2-4 lbs).
4. Your photo looks a little funky with dark streaks running through the light green butter. It should all be an even light green when cooled. Maybe there is still water in the butter? You want to get good separation of the water from the butter so that you can scoop/ skim the butter off the top once it is cooled. Typically, I pour the cooked mixture (after you sieve the trim out with cheese cloth) into a large pot or tupperware and let it cool overnight in the fridge. Then you should get good separation with the butter solidified on top of the water and you can scoop the butter out.
I hope this helps…a whole cookie usually gets me feeling really good for a long time.
How much trim did you use? My first two times i used 1oz. then 2 ozs. Third time i used three and it worked like a charm.
Here’s one method to eliminate the guesswork and help insure reliable, consistent results.
Raw cannabis is full of THC-A and CBD-A, the acid forms of our favorite cannabinoids. We need to decarboxylate THC-A to THC and CBD-A to CBD. This is best done in your oven before making cannabutter. http://www.LeBlancCNE.com/decarboxylation/
Decarbing beforehand shortens the cooking time. http://www.leblanccne.com/cannabutter/
Make a large batch, try a teaspoon, wait and set your serving size accordingly for the rest of the batch.
Maybe your using the wrong butter.. Try using unsalted butter or coconut oil works better good luck
Also try slow cooking in a crockpot over on low over night for possible 12 hours to get the most out of the cannabis
Next time de carb it, dont cook for over 4 hours or bring past a boil u want her just under a boil, youll get the same kick without that shitty flavour and you can use more in your recipe for better effects, your butter looks fine. Could be the strain if nothing else
Well you went wrong because you cooked the brownies for 24hours you should have only cooked them for 1 hour on this setting for the oven the setting is 250 Fahrenheit try that and I guarantee you will be happy with the results
Freeze the budder before using it i dono why i find it helps…also just double boil it for an hour or two then strain with cheese cloth into a ball jar and put in freezer. Try coconut oil and make brownies with that. Longer cooking doesn’t mean stronger oil. it just means ur letting more of the chlorophyll and other shit get into the budder. Or try using shatter…..
