Hey Dgc!
Tonight I spotted a few bananas on one of my chemdawg plants. My plants are 40 days into flower of 63.
What should I do?
Cull the plant? Pick all the Male flowers daily? Harvest super early? Let it ride? Place the plant outside to re-veg and/or save seeds.
What risk does this plant pose to the remaining plants?
Thanks
Chemdog is hermie prone but day 40 seems early. Often times chemdog produces male pollen that is infertile. I would look for light leak or a reason she hermied. Pulling the male flowers will help reduce issues but one missed can seed the crop. Hope someone gives a better solution.
JustCoolin is right, chem strains are prone to pop nanners but not at a high rate. But generally speaking the 3 main elite chem cuts, Chem 91, Chem D and Chem 4 don’t herm unless forced environmentally in some way, ( light leak, too cold, over fed, etc…) Find out what is causing it and pick the male flowers off as you see them. But keep in mind some elite cuts have come from chem herms, sour diesel, candy chem, Geisel etc… You may find something great. Anyway, good luck and just remember when it comes to chem, it’s Dog not Dawg
Chem mattik
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I’m leaning on the result occurring from a temp spike and/or over fertilization. I will keep picking bananas and hope for the best. My alternative is to just remove this plant and pollinate it with some males I just sexed out. I’m not sure if that would shut down the Male flowers once the deed is done.
I’m also aware of the “chemdog” namesake, but chose to spell chemdawg, as this was how my clone came labelled. Not sure if I got a Mutt’d up cross
Mine went too, but as you can see from the pics, she still matured well and had very few seeds. Hermies appeared during week 5 at most of the bottom flowers, but as this was something I regularly check for in new genetics, I saw them and just popped them off and carried on. It does take some time and can be frustrating. But believe me the genetics are worth it sometimes. This one I just pulled came in just over 182g dry on her when my average is 110-140 per plant in the space. Just pick off the male flowers manually and watch for when they stop developing and you’ll be fine. I was warned about the hermie trait, but after puffing the Chem on so many stops, I just had to make her my own. Good luck brother!
