Cindy 99

Got this plant from a friend. He said it was grown from feminized seed. I was hearing a lot about this strain from different people. Isn’t this supposed to be some of the most stable genetics in cannabis? I had this still in veg. It was just tucked up against the wall too tight. Looks like it’s male to me, no? What is up with this thing?

Must have been a mistake made somewhere. That’s a dude showing sex.
As far as stable goes I think anything will herm if treated bad enough not saying that’s the case here.
Gotta remember too that most of the top strains now were made by accident which is where the term clone only and bullshit like that came from.
Cindy 99 is no exception it came from jack Herer bag seed and the male was unknown. Ya know all the stuff we are told not to do now🤔

Yeah I had known of he bag seed origin but the 99 I had heard was supposed to represent that it had been back-crossed on it self a certain number of times that brought it to the point that it was 99% its own genetic material instead of having the spliced genetics of a mother and a father when they began to give out the seeds. And that this back-crossing was the reason for such a stable plant known for not herming out. That being said, if we are agreeing that this is just a male plant then the stability isn’t in question. As far as your statement that if mistreated any strain could herm, I think is incorrect. I’m pretty sure the guy from brothers Grimm went over it on the show with the guys, but the process of feminization eliminates the Y chromosome completely if done properly. By doing this they eliminate the possibility of any male traits. They have to be female plants and not herms themselves, but after that there doesn’t seem to be any way to get the male traits without pollen being introduced. Being that I’m not up on the science of breeding and genetics I could have misinterpreted the information, and have heard from other breeders exactly what you said. “Any strain can herm.”

I do agree that you have a male plant on your hands but that had nothing to do with the plants stability especially since the plant was still in veg. Males left in veg too long will do that sometimes especially if let get rootbound etc.
It’s possible that your friend may have gotten regular seeds by mistake.

With all due respect to Brothers Grimm, there is a reason Seedsherenow stopped carrying them. Plenty of examples of intersex in their lines. We saw it happen here on the show. All along as more and more examples came to the surface he kept denying there was a problem and blamed the grower, including guru and The Dude. The information he provided during his interview is mostly correct, but it doesn’t match up with what we are seeing in his lines. They do not reflect quality work. This is especially true since Duke left the company. Not hating, just standing up for the grower. Keeping it real.

Interesting, I have never ran any of his gear so I can’t comment on any issues with his genetics.
I have ran dukes stuff and he will tell you what will make them herm so at least you know what not to do.
I just don’t think there is any strain that can handle every mistake us growers throw at them and it wouldn’t really be fair to ask that of any of them. It would take forever to put them through every scenario that people could put them through and unfortunately the seed business is so fast paced that they are scared of loosing their seat at the table if they wait too long. Not saying it’s right or even excusable but it’s just the way things are now.

I understand what you are saying. However, this isn’t my experience with the breeders I choose to grow, and I sometimes put my plants through negligent hell. However, you’re right, it is the way it is in the hype breeder market, but there are quality breeders that still put in the work. Even some who work with genetics prone to show intersex traits put in the time and energy to minimize these issues. As for Mr. Soul, when asked about his herm genetics he continuously denied this was true, even though the plant grown publicly on the show threw some serious balls for all those who had the cut. I understand intersex traits are possible in some work, but when the breeder flat out lies and deflects blame over and over when approached in a polite and civil way, that by the way included many accolades for what he had done in the past, then it’s no longer about the integrity of the genetics. And the market will remain as shady as it is as long as we keep supporting and making.excuses for bad breeding practices (not that this is happening here). I understand growers have a responsibility, but when a breeders work keeps showing consistent weaknesses it says a lot about the integrity of their work. It’s too easy to always blame the grower. The future of the cannabis gene pool depends on our buying power. If we want to preserve robust genetics for future generations to enjoy, we have to support those who support that goal. To each their own though. ✌️

As we all seem to agree, this is just a case if a Male seed getting into a pack and being grown in a 5 month long veg. Exactly the situation Killzone describes. It was a runt. Slightly deformed from the beginning, growing itself in an odd shape. The more important thing is the higher level of discussion going on between you guys. This was exactly what I had hoped to see by posting. Thank you for posting and keep bringing the fire discussion and the fire weed.

I just want to add…

When it comes to cannabis genetics, “stability” means different things to different people.

c99 is considered “stable” because the ORIGINAL non fem seeds were very uniform with very few differences between individual plants. “Consistent” might be a better word to describe this than “stable”.

Fem seeds and their “stability” regarding males/females/herms is a totally different conversation.

Okay, I really have been confusing the two. It does make sense when you say it like that. I do remember soul saying specifically that it wasn’t known to harm. I could be wrong, though.
