Greetings DGC. Somewhere I heard that applying cloning gel to
a main stem or branch that had been accidently split can help.
The idea would be to put a light coating of cloning gel on the
split area and then bind the two sides of the split together with
twisty ties or zip ties or pipe cleaners or whatever. Was wondering
if someone here knows if it helps heal the damage ?

The plant doesn’t need your help to heal and It definitely doesn’t need rooting hormones to heal. IBA actually prevents the wound from healing so it can form roots from the soft tissue. You want the wound to heal and harden up.
Ok Jmystro said it better than I was trying to convey, so I will just say, that I have had a fan, fall on a plant and split it 3 ways right down the middle where I had topped it. This was a good size plant.
I wrapped the split around and around with green rubber coated twisty ties until it was back together. The plant was snoop dream and it was amazing. Best bud in a while and I am almost out.
I hope someone else has a better idea for sutures because I just winged it with what I had.
White painters tape works great. Just leave it on for 2 weeks and then take it off. Done it many times . No gel . Just 1 wrap of 1inch painters tape.
Yep. No need for cloning gel. I’ve seen some horrible split plants heal themselves back together with tape, zip ties etc. and once healed they seem to be fully functional branches usually with no signs of deficiencies from the break. Plants are amazing, aren’t they?!?
I will say this happens less and less to me now that I try to get some silica in her veins asap. But definitely before I start trying to manipulate branches. The silica will make the branches more flexible so they will usually bend instead of cracking or splitting.
White painters tape and zip ties are a great idea. It sounds like it doesn’t really matter what you use as long as you can remove it. These plants heal so fast because they grow so fast. Good info.
It’s amazing how Mother nature has our backs. “poor human, you should’ve closed your door BEFORE the cat got in your grow, but at least he had alot of fun climbing your mothers and eating half your clones, I’ll fix what I can but be careful next time’
