How should I prep my coco to use with Grow Dots? Do I use only coco and perlite at 2:1. Or do I add ewc and minerals (basalt, gypsum and sulpomag)? What about using Grow Dots in peat do I treat it like I was using regular amendments? I usually use the mineral recipe from bas. What’s Scotty’s coco recipe?

Do not mix coco and perlite 2:1 first of all. Maybe 5-10% perlite mixed in coco is plenty. Grow Dots is a complete formula that does not require any addition amendments. you can really screw with your nutrient ratios adding anything to Grow dots. Microbes are OK. Recharge and you can mix up to about 15% worm castings in your coco/perlite mix.
What size pots will you be growing in? If you are under 3 gallon then there’s less of a reason for perlite. If you’re in bigger pots then the perlite can be beneficial and I’ve been running mine in the 20-30% range and have been adding about 100-125g of dots per 7g pot. I have completed about 4 grows with the dots (2 more in flower currently) and have added other inputs successfully but with purpose and not all the time. I tend to always add MSA and a wetting agent to each feed until late flower when I cut out the MSA. When it comes to additional nutrients I have had success with adding NFTG nutrients with the dots, but they are like organic soup so they don’t clash with the dots as bad as standard mineral/salt nutes could. If you do try adding other inputs just start off small and be careful because the dots are designed with a proper ratio and you can mess that up if you just start chucking things at it.
As for the minerals, unless you are using RO water then you should probably have enough in your water source. At least I have in my experience but I am fortunate enough to have reliable well water. A lot of those minerals you buy can be a source of heavy metals so I tend to stay away from them.
Keep it simple and you’ll be fine. Once you get a feel for growing with them then I’d say start branching out, pun intended. 😂 Happy growing and #growerslove
Hey so what I do is take a big storage tote. Drop 5gals of coco in there with about 4 gals of pumice (perlite whatever your choice is.) depending if she’s s photo or an auto depends on application rate. Mix it all up and enjoy the grow. Happy growing
