Hey everyone! I’m pretty new here and not overly active on the forums but like to help out if I ever feel I have something useful to say other than writing “Headbutt Sauce” in the comments trying to win shit every month and now feels like one of those times that I can contribute! I’ll preface this by saying that I’m no Guru!!! I’m by far an expert of any sort, especially when it comes to electricity etc. I’d also call myself a very average grower. Now that that’s all out of the way, here’s my 2 cents… First off, Scotty I’m really sorry that this happened in the first place! Also, I know you mentioned that it was probably an old piece of equipment you had lying around but the truth is, even if that was a brand new timer it probably would’ve failed as well. The reason I say this is because HLG’s and many other brands of lights that are popular in the market right now are using Meanwell Drivers or other similar drivers. On the episode you guys talked about the timer being capable of handling 15 amps and that the light doesn’t come close to maxing that out. That is true for when the light is already operating; the problem here is what’s known as inrush current. Think back to the old digital ballasts used to run your 1000 watt HPS lights. You had to use specialized higher end timers that could handle the inrush current. Many timers will have warnings on them about this very issue. I believe as you guys already stated on the show, that a simple mechanical timer would be the way to go. I’m sure this was probably already discussed amongst yourselves, but figured I’d put this out there for others in hopes of saving someone a real heartbreak as I know many people do t have daily access to their gross and this could be crushing to some depending on the circumstances. BTW, thanks for sharing my Velcro cheap ass zippers post on the show a few weeks back! Just got back from my mailbox with my first pouch of Recharge! Figured I’d vote with my dollars and see what it’s all about! Thousands upon thousands can’t be wrong! One last thing, if you have any Greek friends, ask them about my ID! Keep up the great work DGC!
