Hello my DGC brothers and sisters.
I’ve been trying Hempy buckets in my last two grows and have been very impressed with the results. A few weeks ago I posted some results comparing clones grown in coco Hempy bucket and grown in fox farm OF. I remember the post was reviewed in a past episode and Scotty mentioned adding worm castings to the coco. Going forward I’m planning on growing in Hempys only (coco over perlite) . I’ll be feeding with Canna Coco A+B , recharge, mammoth P, and Cali Magic. Can I add worm castings to the coco coir in the bucket ? Can I top dress with organic amendments ? Should I just keep it simple and not mess with a good thing ?
I’m looking to grow the cleanest medicine possible for my wife and myself. Love the DGC for all the knowledge and help given.

Sorry about the pic folks. Should have explained. It
is twp different strains both growing in Hempy at present.
It was right before I took clones. Will be switchcing to
flowering period this week. They are blue dream and New York
City Diesel. The plants I did the comparison with were GG#4 from
a past grow. These are just a couple plants from my present grow.
I’ve never run Hempy buckets myself, so forgive me if I’m wrong, but if hempy systems drink from the bottom, would top feeding be very effective? Maybe when it gets wet from wicking some of the nutrition can make it to the plant that way, but I had always thought the big advantage in top dressing was the water running over the amendment, taking the goodness down to the plant. Maybe you would be better off making a tea from said amendments? Like I said I’ve never run a hempy, so don’t take my words as fact, it was just a thought I had when reading the post.
Either way, Keep doin’ your thing, Lord Blueberry! I hope all is well with you and yours!
And you should be just fine with the worm castings. I prefer to mix my coco with castings then amend it. but that’s just me. Happy Growing!
Hey Saint Skinny. My Hempy buckets are
really simple . I don’t bottom feed and I don’t have
them tied together in anyway. I just water from the top
and let the run off pour into a catch tray.
That’s a good point though. Top feeding would be worthless
if I was feeding from bottom.
Best wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy New Year!
I run sub-irrigated planters (SIPs) which are basically a hempy system. I grow in organic soil and just top off with fresh water 2 or 3 times a week (each planter has a 2.5 gallon res under the soil). Once a week, I add my organic top dress or amendments (castings, recharge, mammoth p, etc) and hand water them in from the top usually with just around a half gallon of water for each plant. I also do this after 2 days of giving them no water, so they are ready to drink up the goodness. It has worked well for me, maybe it will work for you too. #growerslove
