What up Dude, Scotty, Guru, and the DGC!
I’m ready to step up my game from my 600w Viparspectra blurple LED and move to a quantum board. HLG is obviously at the very top of my list and for good reason. The HLG 550 is more than I would like to spend right now so I am planning on building one with two QB288 V1 on their slate double heatsink. Not the kit, just buying everything separate because it’s cheaper and leaves more room for customization. I have a few questions regarding this plan:
Does anyone have any experience with this setup? If so, what did you think about it? What would be the best driver to run with this setup? How would you determine what the wattage would be? Like if someone talks about being able to pull 1g/watt+ from these quantum boards, how do I know how many watts I’m using for that equation?
HLG recommends installing an acrylic sheet on the quantum board to protect it from dust and other particulates which could cause hot spots and burn out the LED’s. I saw a video on Migro’s youtube channel where he said that it lowers the PPFD by about 5%. Is it worth it to do this or would the difference be negligible?
Last question (and maybe the most important)- What spectrum should I go with for the best all purpose veg/flower? The options are 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, and 5000K. Im thinking 35ooK but need some reassurance…
Sorry for all the questions! I’m excited to build this light to start improving my environment and maximize my yields. Since I’m not going to buy the actual “kit” I just want to make sure I’m doing it right and know what to expect!
Thanks guys. Much love to the DGC
