What’s up DGC? It’s me again, I just can’t stay away from the DGC!! I was looking through the Dank nugs section and I noticed that quite a few growers were yielding roughly twice the amount I am. I have only grown and harvested 2 plants in my life. The first one was just over 3 oz and the second just over 4, so I’m getting better I guess. I do know from reading others post on the site, that depending on what strain you have will dictate your yield. My question is, How much does vegging affect the yield? How long should I veg? I am dealing with a max height of 70 inches but have to take roughly 14 inches off that cause of light size or should I say ballast/hood size. I typically veg for 4 to 5 weeks then switch to bloom. I guess if others are vegging 8 weeks the math would suggest the answer to my question. But does it really work like that? Keep in mind that most of my growing knowledge has been acquired through this site, I have a lot to learn…….please teach me more!!!
How long to veg?

4-5 Weeks from seed or clone?
clone, clone for about 2 weeks or until 3 or more root segments grow 1.5 to 2 inches long, then planted in 3 inch planters and left under 24 hour light until I see roots starting to come out the bottom, then into 5 gallon bucket for the 4 to 5 weeks of veg.
What are you running for a light and how big is your tent? I’d say that’s more important than the amount of time you veg.
Example.. using a 4×4 tent, you could pop 6 females in 5 gallon pots. With a quality light, you could flip to flower in two weeks and end up with 1lb of dry flower.
If you did that with one seed, you’re talking 4-5 weeks of veg to fill the canopy.
Using your example because it’s almost apples to apples comparison as I use 5 gallon pots. Using math, if I veg for 4 weeks or twice the amount of time as your example Lets just say I get 4 oz dried out of one plant but this puts me about 4 oz short of a pound if we use 3 plants at 4 weeks instead of 6 plants at 2 weeks. Using math and only math based on what your telling me, then I need a better light. oh…..my tent is 63 inches by 73 inches by 70 inches tall both veg and bloom tent same size. In veg I run 3@ 1800 watt COB lights with running watts of 300 each give or take. In bloom I run 1 of these cob light, 1 sun system Ceramic Discharge Metal Halide with 315w/930 philips bulb says 600 watt equivalent, and I have 6 @ 45 watt led evenly spread through tent, the ones with blue/red/white spectrum. I should add that I try to maintain temp flux of 65 to 80 and RH around 65% but it’s just trying , the temps and RH are all over the map to be honest. I haven’t quite figured that part out. Maybe with this new info about my grow the crew can help me figure this out. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Can you link to the lights you use. It’s difficult to know exactly what you’re using, except for the cmh.

if growing in a 7-10 gallon pot then 6 weeks at least – this give the root system (spider roots, ect) to grow “across” in stead of growing down which they will do also. then some go by height of plant 16 inches tall veg plant will do good. plant will got w big, remember let s Blur=e Dream get 22 inches tall and then flipped to 12/12 . plant got 6 feet + indoors -,what a problem because of height but filled 12 – quart ,Mason jars
I always have problems deciding how long to veg and every single time end up with massive plants I wish I had flipped weeks ago. There is one thing though about growing big plants and that is big yields. Your space is your main limiting factor when you have plenty of light. I have a 70 in high tent to and I can done tell I will have to get super creative raising the lights this time and I even cut them back at least 8 inches all over the top because the were so big in preparation to flip. Plants can get huge fast. Get them to the size where your whole tent area will be full of canopy and maybe consider scrogging it full before flipping. I try not to go by a strict weekly sched just flip them when I think they are ready. I personally don’t get in a rush and like to see them really thicken and get a sturdy stem. Sometimes I will keep the plants stunted in a little nursery pot for a long time months sometimes before even feeding it and making it grow.
I think the issue is your light, those LEDs have very low efficiency converting watts to PAR. The CMH isn’t bad, but still not as good as a quality LED. Ditch the LEDs you have, and replace with another CMH or grab something from Rapid LED, HLG or spectrum king. Also, if you find a plant you like cut a few clones, and fill your tent up a bit more, you’ll quadruple your yield and cut down on vegging. You could also pop and plant more than one seed.
So your tent is 5×6 feet and you grow one plant in a five gallon at a time? 3 – 4 Oz seems normal. Do you train the plants? A tent that big should have more five gallon plants or a 20 gallon pot and veg longer and train to make it a monster plant before you switch. Essentially, more smaller pots and 3-4 weeks of veg, or a bigger pot and a longer veg. Both of these will help you yield considerably.
I do train LST and lollipop twice, first lollipop I take fan leaves and leave baby new growth, Second lollipop I take fan leaves, the new growth I left on first round gets cut into clones. I should have mentioned that I do a perpetual grow, so to speak, One plant gets added to bloom once a week, so essentially I will be harvesting one plant every week, or so, depending on the strain. thanks for input
full spectrum led white light! My opnion is going to be your light. Yes you are getting what you get now but feel you could get more with some higher par ratings.
Fill your tent with more plants and vega little less. Try scrogging? the goal is to fill that area corner to corner with canopy. If you have a few plants free standing and light hitting the floor you are not utilizing all or your light and power consumption which basically leads to higher bills and less product. Its all about maximizing space. I chopped this weekend. 4 Mephisto Autos in a 4×4 under a growers choice ROI-E680 gets me a lb easy in 9-11 weeks strain dependent.
