Hey DGC!
My grower friends finally convinced me to try DWC and I’m wondering what you all would recommend for nutrients/additives? I’m usually a soil/coco guy, just looking to try something different and see how it goes. Any tips tricks or advice about dwc are welcome!
The one time I did 5gal DWC I used “UC Roots” to keep the roots healthy and white. Worked great even with water temps often in the 70s F.
I will def give that a look!
I ran House and Garden’s Aquaflakes A and B plus the overpriced bloom additive, skip their bogus micros. No sugars, organics, or anything alive and I had no problems even when the room got up to 90F. I followed their DWC feed chart and added water back to maintain levels. I didn’t dump the res, just keep refilling with water until you’ve refilled more than the original amount of the bucket. Then refill with full-strength. I image Canna has something similar for DWC, look for a DWC-specific feed chart as the feed rates are much lower than soil/coco.
Thanks! I’ll check that out
I run a RDWC set up and use Cronk Nutrients. I find them to work great in my set up. Personally I prefer using beneficial bacteria instead of running sterile. I find it works the best to prevent any root issues. For that I use a product called Orca. It is hands down the best product to use in DWC. Other than that make sure your buckets get lots of air to the root zone and keep your water temperature in check and you will be off to the races. Good luck. DWC is amazing once you get things dialled in.
I’ve been running DWC for a few years now…and Hydroguard (Bacillus bacteria) has been great for preventing root rot. You still sometimes get some things growing in the res, but the roots stay healthy and the plants thrive.
