There should almost be another drop down section between Dank Nugs , and grower Q&A that’s just for Nugs almost ready . It looks almost ready but the pros could tell you , and that’s not me by any means .I can tell you it’s best to check the inner portion and not a leaf coming off as the leaves turn a little faster . I think a lot of us struggle here and it can be confusing with the estimated times that the seed company gives vs the conditions your growing in but it looks like your rocking the HPS and say what you want about HPS but they are tried , tested and true . Any way you can get a pic with a regular light on it and in the middle buds? Your second pic down has a nice swollen calyx @ top left so it’s gotta be close . Plants look really nice!
Brandon C is correct! You definitely want to check to buds not the leaves. Those trichs looks done though so this is what you want to see just on the buds. And check multiple bud sites from the tops to the lowers to make sure you have a good average. There is no perfect time as perfect would be all cloudy, no clear, no amber and that is impossible. Aim for a good medium of mostly cloudy and the amount of clear and amber is more of a preference in our opinion. We like functional highs so we do not like to see much above 10% amber but if you like night night bud then more amber would be what you should be aiming for about 20-30%. Good luck and nugs look amazing! Happy growing
To determine when to harvest, you will want to look at the trichomes on the buds. You are looking at the color of the round head of the trichome.
General rule of thumb is to harvest when you have 10% amber, 80% milky and 10% clear trichome heads. After a few harvests, you may find your own preference.
The amber heads are reported to have more of a sedative, body effect. The clear heads have been reported as being more cerebral and energetic high. Either way, you’ll want the majority to be milky.
These effects can be attributed to the maturation process of cannabinoids within the trichome heads. True they will continue to mature slightly as they hang dry. The milky to amber is a visual representation of the THCa turning into CBNa.
Do be sure to check the buds and not the leaves. Trichomes on the leaves will mature faster than the buds, so they aren’t the most accurate ripeness indicator you can use. However, they can be a good visual indicator as to when you might need to begin your flush if you choose to do so.
Using a jewelers loupe is preferred, but many times you can use the camera on your phone to get a close up and clear picture of your trichome heads.
Enjoy the journey!
Thanks guys. Been using wifi microscope to check. Will have to try to look at the buds lights off as is difficult under hps.. giving both my plants another water. Look. N wait. Lol.. will for sure put them both on dank nugs..should be back to back harvest of the blue sunset sherbert and my gorilla banana plant. Keep up the good work dgc!
