Thanks everyone for the help so far as I struggle through my second grow.

  1. The Jungle Lava strain had an intersex issue and pollenated much of my crop.
  2. I learned that roots coming out the bottom of a pot is NOT a good way to tell when to up pot.
  3. I had a thrip (yes singular but still I had one).

Now I am on Day 57 and I noticed that a bunch of new growth has started to form on the tops and sides of the main colas. It is happening on both remaining strains I have growing.

Jelly Rancher (Humboldt Seed Company) is supposed to be 45 day strain
Garlic Budder (Humboldt Seed Company) is supposed to be 70 day strain

@45 days both strains had clear trichomes and fresh looking white hairs. I am inexperienced, but neither looked “ripe” in any way. They have steadily ripened since then. The leaves are fading, hairs are turning orange and the plant is drinking less. I had planned to go to 65 days or so and then all of a sudden today I see all this new growth.

Is this normal?
Is this a sign of something good or bad?

Since most of the crop is seeded, I plan to freeze and wash the harvest for hash. I am not concerned about the seeds or the flower, but I want the trichomes ripe. Is it true that you can tell when to harvest from the percentage of milky to amber trichomes? I heard the late great Frenchy (RIP) say that you cannot tell from the trichomes but I don’t know any other way. For a novice grower like me, what is a reliable and simple way to determine the peak time to harvest for hash?

I posted a couple sample scope shots of the trichomes. It is really hard to get a good shot of those with a handheld scope while they are on the plant! Anyone have a good method for shooting trichomes on the plant?

Thanks again for all the help. I am so happy I found the DGC. You really are a great group of people.
