Hey DGC, just have a quick question. I recently grabbed some bud and I’m 99% sure its tainted with paclobutrazol although it looks semi-ok. I would appreciate the community chiming in and helping me out before I give my bud man the bad news. I posted a few pictures but in the side by side the bud on the left is the suspect herb while the stuff on the right is the control. Although they look like they’re similar volumes the one on the left is almost 3x the weight. Thanks and happy growing to all!
I can.t even pronounce that word lend High Times can also help you out with those buds. Do they smoke the same? let the good times roll.
If its 3x the weight I’d say so. It also looks like it was beat to shit in one of those fancy trim machines. I have a personal bias toward trim machines though. Lol
A great question. I had to google https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paclobutrazol If given a choice based on visuals, I’d choose the one on the right as preferable. The suspect bud reminds me of some traditional market stuff we purchased a while back here in Chicago…
I recall it was harsh, smoke smelled suspect like chemical burning and produced a resentful and unedifying high with a bit of a headache. It kind of seemed like we were getting the stuff meant for tourists so we found another connect who ultimately flaked but by then we were all but self supplied for flower. Jeebus why is it so fuc#ng hard to get a reliable connect who actually knows what a terpene is? lol 🙂
Looks like free market bud in the Carolinas, so probably, yes.
Both do actually.
Could be but could also be something else.
I personally don’t think you tell just from bud appearance, and I don’t really think it’s fair to accuse people of using something like paclo just based on how their nugs look.
I had a few people accuse me of using paclo when I busted out some especially dense but poorly trimmed buds at an event. I’ve definitely never used anything like that in my garden, and I was a little offended to be accused of such a thing.
Genetics, lighting and lots of other factors play a role in bud shape and density. Dont assume someone is using dangerous magic chemicals just because they grow some hard nug.
Soup, what’s Triacontanol?
I agree with soup. Plus they don’t look the same. The colors are different.
I have never heard of these products but I have wondered about some of the buds I have gotten lately. Super dense little hard buds that turn to powder when you grind them. I think somebody even mentioned too much silica in a post. I have very little experience with that myself. I have however been smoking weed for over 40 years and I would have to agree with Soup. I remember getting black market sacks back in the day and thinking I was robbed until I got to my scale. Different varieties truly have different flower stacking and density. I do however think all these questions we are all asking have brought us here. A place where we can gather knowledge to grow our own and know exactly what has gone into them.
