Hey Dude, Scotty and Guru
Massive fan of your show, listen everyday while working in my garden. I’m hoping you can help me out with a problem I am having with my jack herer, leaf edges curl up while the tip hooks down, some plants seem to grow out of it and others struggle the whole way through and then it doesn’t show on others at all, all are cloned off the same mother. I’ve run under hps and just changed to spectrum king, grown in coco an perlite with salt based fertiliser, generally do 4 week veg and yield 4 oz a plant under hps. I hope you can help me out here, I can’t move onto another strain until I know what’s causing this!
One photo of happy plant, the other not so happy
cheers
keep up the good work team!
Are you in individual pots? Might be some PH issues going on. I get weird growth when I first transplant with some of my plants too and have others take off. They all catch up to each other with time. Im in a 2×4 grow bed so I figure there are some pockets in my beds that have some PH fluctuations. I notice when this happens the plants water uptake may slow down because the roots are affected by the PH and slow down. After a few ReCharge applications I see the plants level out. Growers Love!
How much do you feed (PPM or EC)?
How much runoff do you water through?
What is the NPK raito of your feedings?
That info will help narrow it down.
Also, how old are these 2 plants?
What wattage HPS and what height above plants?
It looks like the plant you say is happy has some of the same going on just expressing it a little different, maybe less.
These were probably not the the best photos to use, they are under a cc140 (I have just got sk602s for the main flower room) about 3weeks old, ph is generally around 5.8-6.0 and ec at this point would be about 1.3-1.4,
Also grown in individual pots, with canna coco
Looks like it could be some Nitrogen Toxicity. Some plain water and a dose of LITFA should straighten her out. 🤠
Nitrogen toxicity is something I was thinking, I run the cx nutrients that has a “mighty grow “ which is nitrogen for the veg cycle, I have been halving the dosage of that but still not seeing a change,
didnt answer run-off…?
That EC sounds super high to me, but I’ve never grown in coco…any coco grower agree?
I would flush if I were you and see how they respons to that. If it fixed the issue you are likely feeding too much.
One of the first problems people run into when switching from hps growing to LED growing, is getting the environment in check. LEDs don’t heat up your plant canopy like hps do, so you will likely have to run your room temps a bit higher. You are looking for around 82 degrees F. at the canopy level (top of the plants). The other thing that seems to happen, is the plants tend to eat more calcium/mg so adding in a cal/mg product usually fixes that problem. I would get those in check then inspect the worst looking leaves under a magnification (100x would be best) to scout for any pest issues. Those are the easiest steps in my opinion, that when done, can rule out a lot of problems and get you closer to what the problem is.
If you were to google search or go to a site I recommend people to go to is https://www.growweedeasy.com/marijuana-symptoms-pictures
You can match to nitrogen toxicity. I do believe your nutrients are too hot and you need to learn how to feed your plants in your environment.
That said what’s going on and how to move forward. If you hav the flu with a high temperature you don’t need to figure out what virus you have to get over your illness. You do need to treat your fever or the rest of your metabolic processes will be effected. Meaning your symptoms can cause even more harm.
I don’t think your nitrogen is that bad. You plants transpiration rate is worse. This can be so many things, small roots do to disease, oxygen, compacted soil etc. even too much nitrogen. Your stomata are not opening.
Fix
changed vapor pressure deficiencies.
Move lights up. Did you change the spectrum? Just curious. Can be chlorophyll adaption.
Foliar spray with light nutes and wetting agent.
Seal room and get the humidity up.
Back off your high nutrients regimen.
Treat your bug problem. I see thrip damage and were there is thrips they usually are mites also.
SpartonGrown – just read your response after posting. You get, great job and respect. Keep spreading the knowledge.
That looks like straight up Nitrogen toxicity to me. I would flush and drop your nutes from 1/2 to 1/4 strength until you see the growth level out. Also, make sure your Integrated Pest Management is on point too. Better to keep it from happening than trying to fix it later, usually after the damage is done.
We had leaf curling. Transplanted to a bigger pot, raised humidity, and gave water, no feeding. This seems to be working. I think Sticky nailed it on this one though. So great to be a part of this group. Learning so much. Thank you to everyone.
This was on Grow Talk 781 FYI. Thanks!
