Hey DGC, newish grower, I’ve been growing indoors for about a year now. I’ve been mixing FF ocean forest with a little coco and worm castings. I’ve been satisfied aside from the fungus gnats I got from I think the castings. I’m just looking for a quality soil that I can switch to. I’m in prohibition-land so I don’t have any grow stores in close proximity. I have no problem ordering it if I have to. I would like to hear what other people are using and if they are happy with it. Thanks a bunch in advance.
Hey Petey, I don’t know where you’re at in Prohibition Land, I am in the Carolinas. I use FFOF 35%, Coco 35%, perlite 30%, I have grow stores within an hour in 3 directions but when pressed I have used Whitney Farms Organic and Black Gold Organic Waterhold blend, the Waterhold blend has some good amendments in it and both are available at Ace Hardware. Thanks Slinger, sounds like you’re using a pretty similar blend as I am. I added a little perlite to this run as well. I’ll look into what our ace carries. I might end up making my own In the end.
Are you going for a living soil with no need to add synthetic fertilizer or just a quality base to start.
Soup has written tons of info on making your own and we all know making your own is like growing your own (better lol).

I mix my own organic soil being in prohibition land it’s way cheaper and way better quality than most bagged souls but research is absolutely critical when blending your own soil like justcoolin said. It’s easy to mess up so start with a good solid recipe and make tweaks to it each grow with the knowledge you’ve learned from research and you will have a soil tailored just for your grow.
Thanks bud, I’m just looking for a good base or a fairly amended soil I can use as a substitute for the FF. Making my own might be the way to go.

Very nice looking grow! Living in prohibition land myself, I have been using coast of Maine soil and lobster fertilizer add 15% perlite. This blend works because easy to get (Amazon). My nutrients for feeding consists of Neptune harvest l, recharge, and mammoth P. All are easily disguised as “just another package”
Thank you kind sir, you’ll be happy to know that run turned out fantastic. I have looked into coast of Maine and it is on my list of possible substitutes. I will be running the Remo nutrients line with whatever soil I end up with.
I use Buildasoil Oly Mountain Modern Mix 2 and the V3 soils.

Don’t hate on me. I just use happy frog from fox farms. then use my liquid nutes on top. It’s easy to get for the most part. It’s not next level, but simple for me. Yes DGC I use fox farm AND advanced nutrients… hate away. 🙂
