Can you guys talk about the Lotus Method of drying?
I can get 60F/60% during the winter months in my basement but come summer fall that ain’t gonna happen.
I read how one should convert a wine cooler or fridge (frost free) but the details are always very generic on how to actually do it.
Thanks in advance.
I use a wine cooler for my cure, but I would be scared of mold without ANY dry period though. Humidity raises quite a bit when you drop temps down that low, so the probability of rot is higher. I’d try a short dry (5-7 days) to preserve as many terps as possible, so you’re not risking your whole harvest. The other problem you’ll face is how to take out humidity accurately inside the cooler, I use Boveda packs in my jars. You might also find a small dehumidifier to remove more humidity than the packs can adsorb to reach that Lotus method. Hope this helps!
While we all want that 60°f 60%rh, you can achieve great results at 70°f 60%rh if that’s all you can get it to. Never tried the wine fridge setup but putting a window ac in the room your drying in can get you those 60°f temps. Refrigerators dehumidify with normal function but im not sure how hard they dehumidify and it could dry out too fast. I’m definitely curious If this will work, I have an extra fridge just waiting to be a drying chamber. I have heard of people converting deep freezers into freeze driers but can’t find any diy on that though.
A deep freezer does not work like a freeze dryer, that i what all the info is gone (it made the people espousing it look bad). You need temp and vacuum pressure for an extended period.
btw Ken, is there a promotion involved?
