Hey DGC, love the show, new listener about 3 weeks now but I try to squeeze in two shows a day!
So I recently heard the interview with Scott for NFTG and am so damn glad I did because it was super informative.
Anyways my seeds are germinated and just popped out of jiffy pellets a couple days ago. I’m starting to get a little bit worried because I do not have a PPM meter and won’t be able to get one for at least a week.
NFTG recommends a soil PPM of 300-500 and pH from 6.3-6.7.
They say when in doubt flush the soil before planting and use Herculean harvest or pH up to fix the pH runoff.
I’ve never flushed, grew organically last round. Do I flush with the Herculean or flush then add Herculean or pH up.
Does the DGC have any clue what Roots original PPM is out of the bag?
Appreciate the help and am really enjoying the wake and bake shows everyday!
I remember using NFTG on one of my.first grows. Didn’t know what organics were or what this stuff would do. I understand a lot more about the stuff now but it’s too bad I don’t have that sample pack anymore (which was awesome of them by the way). You are essentially in the presence of microbial innoculants and soluble organic inputs.
So I never owned a PPM either, just ph’d before waterings and followed the chart. Plant never burned a bit.
Anyways this stuff uses a calcium based delivery system instead of chelating the nutrients and forcing them into the plant, they attach (for lack of better words) the nutes to calcium which plants use in the masses if I remember correctly. This is why they are less likely to burn your plants.
I would honestly throw some recharge in there and trust the microbial population to buffer the ph for you. If you are going to go organic go all the way and put your faith in the life.
Good luck. Grew one of the frostiest plants I’ve ever grown with that stuff!
Thanks stony! I tried organic last round and ended up with some problems that stunted the plants quite a bit, autos so they never really recovered.
I want to get a couple more grows under my belt before I try no till again. I’m really good with anything that has a strict schedule and with organics it was all over the place and to be honest a bit daunting. I was probably way over thinking everything but I’m hoping for smooth sailing this time.
I’m actually going out to grab some recharge today, they gave a shoutout to a local gardening store on the show the other day that ordered some recharge!
TeethAreOutsideBones Im using NFTG right now and been using the hole line fore years. I then I took Scotty advice and tried Canna for a few runs but went back to NFTG. I very rarely use my PPM meter for them so I would’t worry to much about it.
And for flushing yes you wonna flush with Herculean Harvest. But how I feed is feed for one week and flush with HH ( Herculean Harvest ) then feed for a week then use RECHARGE then back to feed for a week then flush then feed 1 week then Recharge … and keep going.
When you start feed the lil ones start with 1/4 quarter strength
Greatly appreciate it EddieC!
I actually just picked up my first Recharge today!
The guy at the hydroponics store said he did pretty much the exact same thing but went back to using AN because better yield. I’m all about quality over quantity!
I also run nftg and use boogie brew compost teas and recharge. My schedule is ffwfft/recharge. I also don’t check ppm just do an initial slurry test before upsizing pots and make sure my ph is correct. As long as your maintaining that ppm level whatever it is and your plants are loving it I wouldn’t worry about it.
