So my DGC fam, last summer I had an amazing outdoor plant unfortunately I had to keep it so trimmed that i only harvested about an oz but I was happy to find a few seeds in that oz which I thought maybe she threw a banana and was giving me a second chance due to me not having any other plants around so when I planted the seeds they were male. I kept a cutting I want to cross it with another plant I like but I’m just confused on how I got a male. Shouldn’t the seeds have been fem since it was selfed ??? Could it b hemp from the fields? I don’t live close to any but they do grow hemp in Indiana. What to do ???!

Very possible commercial hemp, wild hemp, local youth, or some other gorilla grower who missed a male. Wind pollinated so no telling how far it blew.
Was the original seeds feminized seeds? If so, yes they should be females. If the original plant was Reg seeds then they will be both sexes. That’s assuming they hermed and selfed. I really don’t know how far pollen travels, too many variables but I wouldn’t think over a 5 mile radius. That’s probably a Guru question. Happy Growing 🙂

We use the term Dank for good weed like the Europeans used the term Skunk, does that mean in 40 years everyone will be searching for the true OG Dank or Roadkill Dank strains?
Popping new seeds is almost as exciting as opening your new girls bra for the first time and seeing what pops out.
You aren’t “OG” unless your first joint was in ZigZag Wheaties
Nickel bags, dime bags, halves, lids and dollar joints, those were the daze
I learned Geography from High Times magazine in the 1970’s.
Cannabis taught me the metric system before it was taught in school
Everything that I know about botany and horticulture I learned from cannabis, the rest I learned from the DGC.
The way it was explained to me, is that on average; 40% of the seeds from a herm will be herms, 30% will be male, and 30% will be female. This was an average based off multiple herms.
Pollen can travel 30 miles. Most doesn’t.
Nice ok thanx crew I’m gonna run them and pry for the best time to chuck some pollen lol
All good info from the DGC. Just adding the possibility that some ditch weed could be growing somewhere near you. It could happen.
yup that sounds like either pollen from a neighboring grow or your plant went herm. Neither would be great to continue working with in my opinion.
Breeding outdoors seems tough as you have a much higher risk of contamination unless you’ve got a huge property or some semi sealed greenhouses or something like that. Much easier to collect pollen and do your work indoors where things are easier to control. Not that outdoor growing and breeding can’t work well together… its just potentially more complicated or requires taking more precautions to control contamination.
Heres my guide for making seeds if anyone needs it:

The problem i run into with my outdoor is the old lady next door popping bag seed and letting them run wild, males and all. She trashed my outdoor crop last year. Also a lot of wild hemp growing in my area.
