Hey DGC,
So the worst thing possible happened and most of my outdoor harvest has white fluffy mold on it. So my question would be is there any way to salvage it? I was thinking the process of making bho could/would kill the mold? Have no idea myself and would love to salvage anything I could. I won’t obviously risk any of my friend and patients, would rather throw it into a bonfire before that but I may shed a few tears having to burn all of this bud (approx 22 ozs)
It’s possible to filter trichomes from moldy bud. Although certain processes can kill mold, it’s more about separation.
What, in your opinion, would be the best way to do that?
Been there, and tried it. I can say wholeheartedly it won’t work with BHO. It will kill the mold (perhaps), but that won’t matter because it will still taste like baboon ass. One hit and you will be disgusted.
sorry for your loss. Maybe make a nutrient tea with it? First I’d cook it to kill all the spores, maybe just boil like soup to start the physical breakdown, then feed it to a compost pile with worms. I like composting leaves, coffee grounds, newspaper/cardboard and worms indoors for indoor wormcastings that are bug-free (gnats, aphids, and russet mites I mean).
I agree with Jim that extracts (bubble hash and open-blast BHO) made from poor outdoor grows taste like a distilled version poor outdoor bud. If you were desperate you could make edibles, but hell, you’re in freedomland, so fire up the indoor grow!
this as a grower something we must all learn to do, throw away contaminated product. It happens and all we can do is use it as a learning experience to become better and figure out what caused it in the first place and what preventative measures can you take in the future. My experience was with mildew, that in the winter time blowing sub 20degree cold air into the flower room vs the warm air inside of it or using a portable a/c unit which when on dehumidifier mode i believe all will blow cold air out the front which has also caused plants closest to the a/c unit in the winter time to create mildew. I have tried sprays in flowers that say its 100% safe to use one time but man that was the worst tasting grow ive ever had and will never spray again in flower, that product was all turned into butter to be used as edibles as the flavor wasnt noticeable that way. You learn and you live. I now check every night to make sure fan leaves havent been overlayed on top of each other which creates the moisture needed to start mildew and mold.
so key things to remember, cold air plus wetness on the fan leaves is the environment mold and mildew seek to start up. I also now never blow air directly into the flower room from outside but use a secondary room to intake air to have an extra barrier that spores would have to travel through to eventually overcome me. Mold spores are all around us every day everywhere we go just waiting to find that environment to colonize.
Chuck it like its poison
