Can someone touch on how to use silica with soil properly and if anyone has gotten to a point of diminishing returns on that, i.e. using too much. also i have started using silica with a hydro system and discovering the different types of silica some more water soluble than others. when should i stop using silica for hydro and should i flush all the silica out or does it not matter? thanks guys in advance.

Here’s some silica info from my guide to cannabis nutrition. Silicon in plant available form is Silicic Acid (H4SiO4). Hydroponic usage rates are 30 – 60 ppm. Silica is a beneficial but not essential, neutral element that can strengthen cell walls and help fight off pests and environmental stresses. It can also stretch cell walls to allow for more chlorophyll in the cell. Silicic acid in solution loses solubility at low pH ranges. When silica creates bonds, it typically create’s a thick gel coating on every surface. Hydro pumps don’t last long when you use too much silica. Always mix silica to plain water first before mixing any other elements. It will react with the Ca and Mg in hard water too so be careful. You can use silica until about half way through flowering.
Here’s a few other silica posts with answers in the comments.

Usually cutting it out around week 5 flower. Many different sources with even more ranges in solubility.
So here’s the situation. I am flushing my hydro plants I’m one week in so I left on vacation and my brother added grosil from buildasoil because he said he was trying to raise the ph without understanding this product or how it works with ph. It’s a big res and if I dont have to re dump it and fill it I don’t want to so there is 10 to 15 ppm of silica in there with just plain distilled water ph is 5.9 now..thoughts??
10-15 ppm of silica at a pH of 5.9 in distilled water is ok. Just be careful when your situation is to go on vacation to not leave the keys to the brand new Porsche.
^ that was a perfect analogy 👍
