Ok, I think today’s episode Scotty was giving props to a guy’s flower that was very frosty. Scotty said there’s no way he could get that frost from hps but then to find out he’s running both hps and LED.
What’s the truth? I’ve seen Jungle Boys setup and looked like they were running mh/hps systems and they have some extreme frosty buds. I want Led but there’s so much debate on the subject that I need my buddies to give it to me straight. Truth behind LED vs HPS. I’m sorry for the noobie questions but I know this place really delivers the truth. I have my scopes on the Spectrum king 400+ because that’s all I can afford for LED but If I run that and a 400 hps light should I expect to get the better results out of my flower with both being used?
Thank you to all of you for sharing your wisdom in advance.
The jungle boys are currently experimenting with all kinds of lights. They are currently trying a CMH company from holland called DimLux and are running rooms with those and a mix of those and gavitas. They’re also testing out some new LEDs i wanted to bring to the attention of the crew which are Fluencebioeng which is short for fluence bio engineering. Theyre new place is 2 buildings 4 floors each. Most people domt know they have the 2nd building across from theres.
Hps really beats a plant up. Its hard in the plant. Its because of the infared light is so intense. They say LED brings the weight and the trichs. Hps more certainly does but supposedly LED does a little bit better and doesnt beat the shit out the plant. And LED with ultraviolet lights supposedly do even better. Watch out for chinese LEDs rebranded to look cool. Just my humble opinion.
Thank you so much. You put it so well. There’s so many debates that it was hard to follow. If you don’t mind me asking, why is the Chinese so bad?
For a 4×4 area what LED would you recommend for 6-9 plants? I know everyone is big on Spectrum king here and others say build your own. Fluencebioeng Looks really cool! Now it’s going to be hard between Sk 400+ vs SPYDRx.
Thanks again for your comment and putting me on to another LED company. I’m really trying to get into LED but I don’t have that Scottie money to get too crazy lol. I just want to get something that I can be happy with and not have to cry because I spent $900 and there’s a light that’s better for the same price. That’s why I’m just researching although my wife is tired of me debating on lights and researching, I just want to make the right decision. I love this industry. Thank you Dude and Scottie again for all your videos and podcasts. I listen to you everyday. I wish it was easier to go direct to the old episodes either SoundCloud, YouTube or here instead of scrolling 500 videos down to get the OG episodes. Thanks again FleetlineDave!
Check out Growmau5’s kits on cutter, and also check out Pacific Light Concepts. I think both have models that would fit your criteria and both use Cree LEDs.
The only thing that worried me is it said for the 5 light system has a 250 transformer which means each light is only 50 actual watts give or take. I thought the rule of thumb was at least 32 actual watts per sq ft?
I have no clue. That’s why I ask. The whole actual watts and everything dumbfounds me.
I just switched from HPS to the SK 400+ about 3 weeks into flower. The SK is killing it. It’s growing a cola the size of my arm right underneath it. The light throw seems to be reaching the edges of my 4 by 4 canopy pretty well. I have the 120 degree profile FYI.
The room is much more pleasant to be in too.
Installation was so much easier than HPS with the freaking ballast cords everywhere.
SK also runs much cooler, so there’s no super hot surfaces to watch out for.
On a related note…
Every time I recharge those plants I swear they get bigger over night. Combination of SK and recharge seems like the real deal.

Thank you sooo much! That was awesomely helpful!
I transition my plants from LED to HPS about halfway through my flowering cycle. My last run was going to end in a tear down and rebuild so i let the second half of flower stay jnder the LED. There was only a gram and a half difference between the lights running the same strain.
I understand that it wasnt the most scientific method but I was rather surprised that there wasnt more of a difference. I plan to run a side by side on my next run, but I startrd fresh on this new run so Ill have to wait and see. The LEDs are also the good ole chinese spiderman lights and a large black dog setup. 1000W Hps. We shall see.
Nice man. That was a good post. Let us know how it turns out
