Have 12 seeds that I have gotten from bags over the past year. When I germinate them and then plant them. How much trouble is it going to be to 1. Separate the males from females and 2. What steps should I take to be sure if these might be auto flower or regular seeds that I have to change the light cycle to start the flower process. To be honest I am just using these 12 seeds as practice, if any of them even pop to practice with. Since our state will be legal recreationally come the new year and medical card holders will be able to grow. I plan on getting my mistakes done now and out of the way so next year it’s go time. I have started a grow journal so if any of these to take I will keep it up and inform you guys as it goes along.

Rarely will a bag seed be auto. But after usually 3-4 weeks it would show sex and start flowering. Otherwise you could wait 4-6 weeks for photoperiod plants to fully mature or flip them to 12/12 when they get big enough for your liking. They will show sex usually in first week after changing light cycle. Also plants will double to triple in height depending on genetics the first 3 weeks after changing light cycle(the stretch, still using a fair bit of nitrogen).
Forgot to mention a lot of bagseed are feminized from a hermed plant in flower. So this trait has a good chance of being passed on to the bagseed and just the gamble with bagseed. Usually showing itself in the first few weeks after changing light cycle or many other stressors can cause the trait to express.
Naw not that bad when you notice a boy in veg, they wont go shooting out pollen before theres clusters of them, and usually you can tell right away it has male traits. If you got a auto ahh just leave in veg with the rest. By the time that auto is done all your photoperiod females should be a really nice bush before flower. Even though most bag seeds are most likely to herm… ahh whatever you can still practice and get some dank at the same time. Air prune pots, nice light dirt, ph water from 6.5-6.8, using quarter to half strength per gallon when using fertilizer with recharge. Hoo mayng~ you go learn quick
The most common cause of bag seeds is a female plant that went herm in the flower room.
This means the odds are really good that:
1) the bag seeds are feminized seeds, since the pollen probably came from a female plant.
2) the bag seeds are very likely to herm themselves, because hermaphroditism is a very strong survival trait that is often passed on to future generations.
Personally I would skip trying to learn with bag seed and just pick up a cheap pack of decent seeds. It’s gonna be a bummer if you spend months growing the bag seed and then they all go herm.
Why not spend like 40$ on a pack of decent quality seeds to learn with? Our buddy Rasta Jeff has a bunch of packs for like 35$ right now.

I see no reason to settle for bagseed when our buddy James Bean is making good seeds so affordable. 👍
