Hey DGC- Decided to add on a little side project and finally try my hand at Auto-Flowering plants. I cleared some space in a closet (shown in pic) and I bought an HLG 65 to grow one plant. The light is rated at 4000K and is described as a Veg/Bloom although most reviews mention it as a veg light only. Since it’s only 65 watts I’m sure it is often used to veg clones or small plants. I’m a CMH guy who uses 3100K bulbs normally and I find even this spectrum keeps the plants low with minimal stretch and tight inter nodal spacing. What do you guys think of using this light for the full cycle of growth ? I have room to add another plant and light in this space but want to see if I can dial in the environment in this location first.
You’ll be fine. Quite a few flower under 4000k without any issue. If you end up needing some extra red there are lots of 660nm red supplemental strips that could round out the spectrum.
You’re good dude roll with it, once that seed pops and has a few leaves lower it some as its only 65 watts. If it pops and you end up with a lanky seedling, again lower it until you notice it not stretching for light, I have an 85 watt light for seedlings and clones and its no more than 10-12 inches away and the plants love it, it will keep them short and stout.
Thanks JC and BBB for those answers . I love the simplicity of the HLG 65. I’m going to add another 100 watts in the form of the HLG 100 V2 3000K. That should add enough light and balance the spectrum for one or two small plants..
