Greeting DGC!
I’m curious about the DGC’s take on veg time. I have 2 grows under my belt, and both grows I let veg for 4 weeks. My reasoning for doing this was because that’s what I read as the minimum veg time for most cannabis plants. Now that I’ve had some success with a few grows, I find myself curious about the logistics of how long one should veg.
I feel its safe to assume that everyone has their preferences on the subject. I would love to hear anyones opinion on how long one should veg to get an impressive yield.
More roots, more fruits. I tend to do a minimum of 4wks sometimes, strain dependant (smoke) I’ll take it to 6-8 wks, to fill out my space.
Typically the longer the veg, the more bud sites you’ll end up with, environmental factors not taken into consideration.
You can also flower from clone, you’ll just need to up your plant count in order to pull off the same amount of bud that you would with a few longer vegged plants.
Peace!
@Nodnarb Would you consider 4 weeks from the seed cracking open to be 4 weeks veg time? I was curious about this too.
Nodnarb is 100% right on this one.
I always veg for 8 weeks from seed. It takes 6 weeks from seed for them to sexually mature (even though they will show immature pre-flowers earlier). I sometimes give my super-heavy sativa dominant breeds like Durban Poison or Hazes up to a 10 week veg. They can be kind of spindly late in flower without a really good start.
In short, I’ve always found that (unless you’re doing SOG), a longer veg time is always better.
Happy Growing MassGrow!!
I veg from 4 – 6 weeks. The extra 2 weeks make a pretty noticeable difference in outcome. Remember to up your pot size when vegging longer.
Oh, and I’m also in Mass. It’s good to be free!
To answer beasts question, I like to consider my veg time to start when I start feeding nutrients, or around 3 full leaf sets. Anytime before that I consider seedling territory, which usually lasts about 2 weeks… so maybe a way to look at it is, 4 weeks of feeding then flip or 6 weeks from the seed popping then flip. Either way is the same amount of time.
It’s all subjective, though, to your goals… SOG I’m vegging for like 2-3 weeks max, whereas SCROG I’ll veg longer to fill out the screen
Awesome answers! I was curious about when experienced growers consider “veg” to start, this clears it up nicely.
And hell yea Doc Brown, real good to be free!
I second the couple of weeks for the seedling stage, before they become established plants. That first week from seed they are still small and fragile, just trying to figure out the world. The second week they are becoming the new lady friend that you must nurture and love. Then abuse the hell out of her to get her big and fat. Top, train, bend, snap, trim, beat the hell out of it, feed it and she’ll reward you with lots of delicious buds.
present on the mass scene myself. been vegging two mainlined blue dream since feb 1st and i have washer and dryer combos lol. i went 10 weeks on the indoor plants myself because i needed recoup time for all the topping it takes to mainline but it was worth it. i got a good size harvest of flower with little larf and my canopy was pretty tight. will mainline again for sure.
First 4 weeks considered to be seedling stage and after then veg.. I agree with these guys though I always over veg because you can always trim back. N fill up that grow space with canopy which brings us to, fewer the plants longer the veg!
