So I went in to the tent yesterday to do my daily check up, and I noticed a handful of buds with some pretty fat seeds popping out of them. I attribute this to the fact that when I put my timer on a different outlet switch I accidentally turned the timer to outlet on instead of timer on and didn’t notice it until the next day so the plants received probably close to 20 hours of light instead of 12. This girl hasn’t given me issues before as it’s a clone of banana mac, But my question is how good with the seeds be to run in the future? They didn’t get hit with some herm pollen or pollen of any kind so will they still carry the same traits that are within the banana Mac lineage? Thanks DGC, y’all have been here for me since day 1, and I don’t know what I’d do without this community or the podcast. Much love from Tx
Well, my buds have seeds. Are they any good?

If you have seeds your buds recieved pollin prob from herming not from your timer giving them extra light thays just not the case my friend.
Pollin pollinates flowers and causes seed production. These seeds if they mature fully and and you can look and squueze test them later will grow a plant probably but there is a higher chance these seeds will herm later on its not for sure but very possible.
Yep they got hit with pollen, immaculate conception isn’t a thing in cannabis. The timer could have caused it or it could be just genetics a lot of factors can cause it if the genetics aren’t solid.
Hell I’ve had autoflowers herm.
You can use those seeds if you want but I wouldn’t run them with any other plants and watch them closely for herming.
In my experience, the seeds I made all produced seeds too. I’m done with bagseed unless it’s just 1 or 2 in a crop.
Damn. Well thanks for the information everyone, I just need to do a better job of scouting next round for Herms
Check out “Switch” by Optic Foliar. Something just mentioned that on here and it reminded me. It may help keep those seeds female. I didn’t bother trying, just threw out about 50 seeds or so after running 14. Clusters of nanners everywhere so I said fuck dem plants and fuck dem seeds too.
Yeah sorry. That’s a bummer. You can still make some great edibles or extracts with seeded bud, but I probably wouldn’t bother planting the seeds.
Another tip for avoiding this next time is doing more strain research and being extra careful about what strains you chose to grow.
Banana OG is known to herm and often has seeds in it.
Mac is very cookie dominate and a lot of cookie related genetics are known to herm due to the super herm prone cherry pie lineage.
So given its a mix of those two herm prone lines, I would kinda expect the Banana Mac to have some herm issues.
A lot of this strain specific knowledge comes from experience, but you can also find a lot of this sort of info online. if you google your strain or google the parents you’ll learn a lot about what to expect. Just gotta put in the time to do the research.
A lot of these “Elite” hype strains were discovered by people growing seeds they found in their bud, which means somewhere along the line something hermed and there was an unexpected pollination. Unfortunately this trait is usually passed on, so just about all of these “elites” are prone to herming to some extent.
I’ve personally never smoked gorilla glue without finding a seed in it. It ALWAYS has seeds in my experience, and that completely makes sense since it was created on accident by a plant herming and pollinating a different strain.
Knowing a strain is herm prone or has herm plants in the family tree doesn’t necessarily mean you shouldn’t grow it, but it does mean you should try to avoid stressing that plant and you should be on the lookout for signs of herming.
Personally I got no time for that kind of BS tho… there’s so many dank strains out there that don’t have issues. most of these hype strains don’t really interest me anyway. I’d rather focus on other crap than worry about herms.
Over the years I’ve become very selective about what seeds I grow, and as a result I almost never encounter herming plants.
Makes perfect sense Soup, thanks for your responses. It was a clone that I’ve been running a few runs now and this was the first time experiencing any issues. I have multiple strains in the same tent so come harvest time I should be able to spot the culprit, but from what I’ve seen, I still can’t spot which one hermed on me.
