I recently ran a few autos in 3 gal pots using Grow Dots. The autos finished after about 65 days. What would be the best way to prepare the soil used? Should I flood the old soil? Would it be recommended to go with a lower strength on the Grow Dots when I reamend the old soil?
thank you
happy growing!!
You can rinse and reuse your coco… I amend my coco with some powdered Cal-Mag from Lotus after I rinse it. I grow using bottled nutes now but there are expired Grow Dots in all of my coco.
At 65 days you are about halfway through the dots total duration although only about 4 more weeks of standard flowering nutrient ratios before it tapers down. So by the time your plant is flowering most of the old dots would be fading away.
It’s hard to say how that will affect the plants. There will be very little nitrogen left in the dots that would be reused which could hurt your nitrogen ratio.
An option would be to add 1/2 new soil to each pot so it’s half the dose of old dots reducing the risk of messing up your ratios.
Another option would be reducing your new dose of dots by 25-50% if you reuse the entire amount of soil.
Since autos tend to have a lot of variance, whatever method you try may work on one and not the other.
Just keep if mind that when reusing the dots that it will affect your nutrient ratios. May be a good idea to have an additional nitrogen source to use if you go lower on the new dose.
Hope that helps and good luck in your garden!!
