Will clear trichomes get you high?
I always chop at about 10% amber, but there seems to be a bunch of bro science surrounding trichome color and effects of they have on your high. Is there truth to any of these claims? Will clear trichs get you high?
Yes, but timing is everything. Cannabinoids start off as CBG and through the growing process convert to THC, the thing we know and love, along with other cannabinoids. I’ve pulled a plant at 4 weeks of flower to test your question. The buds did have trichomes, they were clear. Terpene development had begun but it wasn’t as rich as the fully matured plant.
Smoking the buds didn’t present the same high, but it had trichomes…? The cannabinoids were not developed / degraded to a point of being THC, which is the main psychoactive cannabinoid. So what I was getting may have been other cannabinoids, but they weren’t psychoactive.
So, when I say it is all about timing – I mean close enough to the normal harvest window where the trichomes contain matured CBG in the form of THC. You’ll have to play with where that line is for your specific strains but THC generally peaks in week nine for “Chemotype 1 cultivars” (high THC, low to no CBD)
Strain dependant.
On a similar note, I believe CBD varieties have to be harvested early as peak CBD happens before peak THC. Must be hard to gauge when running 1:1 strains. Something in my memory says CBD turns to THC the later you harvest? Not sure on that. Others here would know more about it.
I’ve heard the younger the bud is the higher your chance for it to give you a headache or give you unpleasant energy drink “overdose” type of buzz.
Ive had effects like that but it could be because i was prompted to interpret it that way.
