Hello DGC Dude, Scotty & Guru, I recently posted a picture on Instagram about a strange looking stem and bud. I received a bunch of feedback and was told I had a polyploid. Another post said no it’s fasciation. Are they the same thing?
I decided to grow out the plant even though it looked strange from the beginning. The seedling split into two stems and started growing like crazy, double the size of any others. I love Ethos Inzane in The Membrane so I wanted to keep it.
Since it started to flower I noticed one of the stems looking really wide and flat like two conjoined together. The bud looked weird also bigger and more leafy. The rest of the plant is normal but very stretchy and BIG.
So I’m growing her out and the bud gets cooler every day. I’m thinking not the best for smoking but so interesting to watch. What causes this mutation? I’m really curious about the genetics going on to make it happen and why only one bud?
looking forward to the cup, the bus sounds Awesome!!!

Diploid would mean it had two cotyledon. The round leaves that emerge first. A lot of seeds might be triploid. Three round leaves emerge instead of 2. It seems fasciation is a separate condition usually hormonal, genetic, possibly even affected by a bacteria, virus, fungi, or even certain mite infestations or chemicals. Hard to tell exactly but sounds like fasciation it is the likeliest with a flattening and ribbon effect on the stem and unusually large growth in return. You would know when you popped the seed how many ploids it was. Initial round leaves.
I agree with JustCoolin. Looks like the start of fasciation cresting is starting. The top growth (apical meristem) will show the mutation most. Polyploids will form more round clusters because of instead of a single cell forming you’ll get two, which causes the growth to form in all directions instead of a ribbon line up top with fasciation.
Thanks for the information. Sounds like two different things. Perhaps being a polyploid caused the stress resulting in the fasciation? All very interesting.
Been hearing interesting things about polyploid cannabis. https://dutch-passion.com/en/blog/polyploid-cannabis-what-is-polyploid-cannabis-n926
