I’m fixing up a grow box from an upright freezer. Any ideas would be appreciated. I was wondering if placing the squirrel cage fan for intake would be best at the bottom with my exhaust vent at the top. It already has a circulation fan built in with ports at each shelf level with about 3 or 4 shelf vent ports. I lined the inside with mylar space blanket for added refraction. Any ideas would be coooo. Peace, love, chicken grease. Stay irie DGC!!
Pushing air in from the bottom would create positive pressure. Pulling from the top would create negative pressure. I forget which one the plants prefer. Hopefully someone will come in with the right answer or I’ll end up finding it. Looks like you got a 2×2 grow tent with a lock! Nice just be sure to make the intake zones light tight if you can. Looks like a fun project.
Wouldn’t want more than one fan pulling from the top and passively through the bottom. A computer fan would be best. I would remove that mylar blanket, those are trash and the white reflects better.
Love this. I have mini fridge that I’m planning on doing something similar with whenever it kicks the bucket. The one thing I would do is cut out that slant on the bottom and fiberglass it flat. If you keep it, there’s only about 6 usable inches of space and you lose about a foot of vertical space you could utilize. Even if you want to keep the plants on that first shelf, you could fit a reservoir or drain waste receptacle in that space.
I’ve used a traditional top freezer and bottom fridge with great results, top for veg and clone, bottom for flower. Heat will be your biggest enemy. Drawing passive fresh air from the bottom and forced hot air exiting from the top is the best way to go. Also food for thought to help heat issues cut a hole in the top for your lights to sit into use a box, tote or similar to camouflage them. This will help by keeping some of the heat out of the environment as well as add head room. Two small occalating fans one up high and one low will keep the air from getting trapped. Best of luck happy growing I hope my insight helped with your plans, the storage in the doors makes good place to store tools water dry goods ect
