Hey DGC, while excited to ask a question to the crew I’m bummed it has to be under these circumstances. I am currently growing 3 OG Autos in a 2×4 tent under a custom LED (4 100w 3500K cree cobs 90 degree) fabric pots filled with FFOF & Coir 50/50 mix. I used recharge, mammoth P, cal-mag, GH 3 part, (recent switch to the bizz for next grow) Temp/RH controller so fluctuations are very minimal 3 degrees difference light vs dark. However, my RH is high 56-61% despite the dehumidifier and carbon filter going as well as a circulating & clip on fan. Exhale bag and the lung room has central A/C and fresh air circulating. Now that all of that is out of the way….
I started my flush with plain pH’d down de-chlorinated tap water about a week ago although, I have only used DI water with my very light feed mix/once a week treat. They did have a minor cal deficiency early on but was corrected and they grew out of control despite some training efforts. Now the buds are extremely close to the light and some of the top of the buds have started to turn a dark purple color and the leaves around the bud have gone from spotted yellow, to brown, to kind of grey, and finally crispy. What’s going on here? It does not smell moldy but looks like it might be but at the same time it’s mainly the taller buds closer to the light that have this effect and the few I did catch and move don’t seem to have worsened. Should I cut them off prior to harvest? Is it bud rot? Botrytis mold? Light burn? Someone told me nute burn seems unlikely to me as it did not show up until I started to flush. Thanks for the help keep up the awesome work good vibes!

It’s definitely not bud rot. Mold grows on the bud and doesn’t burn the leaves. I’d say light burn because of the way it’s only affecting the top parts of the plants. If the light wasn’t too close, these symptoms look like over fertilization. It could be a combo of the two.
Looks like light burn to me. Pull the tall branches over and tie them down, remove all the dead leaves. If you take that exhale bag out you may see a decrease in humidity, might be necessary to finish them up. You can definitely salvage this crop.
Your flushing. Girls look like they are not ready for flushing. No nutrients in the leaf all used up by your seriously bright light. plant in the middle essentially has 2 direct and 2 indirect points of light. Running her wide open on fumes, not going to make it to the finish. Have you scoped it for trichome development. Plants look like they got all white hairs and not very plump.
Great point on direct and indirect lighting, that 2nd pic is an exact visual of that.
“Running her wide open on fumes” nice one.
I did not want to miss the flush and I was going off of breeder times for when to start the flush. trichomes are cloudy no amber just yet. Should I feed again? I also have a bottle of Optic Foliar Overspray, will that help? I took the exhale bag out and raised the lights a couple inches. However, I’m not sure if I should feed or just keep giving plain PHd Tap water. Thanks for the help DGC !
If they’re mostly cloudy I wouldn’t feed. Don’t spray anything on those buds. How many days into flower are these?
hey memes, just wondering what you mean by direct and indirect light, and how it affects growth? please explain brother. help me become a better grower. you guys seem to have a wealth of game. dgc!
Direct and indirect may not be the best words to use, but I was referencing what JustCoolin said about the light placement in relation to plant placement. The middle plant is receiving a high ppdf (did I use that right? lol) from 2 lights being right under it and the picture reflects that. The middle plant is by far the worst effected. Does that make sense? By indirect lighting I meant they are recieving less intense overall light because of distance and angle. Hope that makes sense I’m lit 🔥 haha
The lighting intensity also effects the metabolism which is how it relates to growth. I couldn’t detail that, but I take it into consideration with a sort of “that feels good” kind of way 🙃
Yo, BroHoGrow here… def, seems like light burn coupled with a flush that has stripped her of needed nutes. Also, your soil mix will steal CalMag. No need to add the coco to that soil, it has enough. Just mix a small bag of perlite to every large bad of FF u use.
Here’s a soil setup I use when using soil…seedling started in rooting foam plugs, then cups with FFHappyFrog, Early Veg-FFHF AND FFOF… then bloom mix (final pot for veg-flip-bloom) FFOF AND FFStrawberry Fields. This allows you to dial back you nutes to see what plants are HUUUUUUNGRY!
If he was flushing too soon the plants would fade from the bottom up. The crispy tips is a sign of over doing it with the GH salts in The FFOF along with the light burn.
They are autos that popped up Jan 28.
According to the breeder they are 65-75 day strain
Started flushing April 5 so around day 68
Also for what it is worth I fed them very little through out the entire grow and didn’t see any trouble until the flush started with the light burn.
Big question now is…. how to finish these and still be able to get something worth smoking.
Simple….bend those branches down as close as you can cracking the stem to the level where the plants are unaffected. Rotate them at least….anything you can do to get then out of too intense if light, moving the light up a couple inches isn’t enough. Looks like you need 2ft of space between the light and tops. Continue your flush and finish then how you planned.
**without cracking the stem
Did you build the light? That space looks like it would better suited with 2 or 3 of those lights instead…or a tent around 80” high.
And I don’t think anyone mentioned..scope a handfull of leaves. Always a good idea when there’s any issue with leaves.
This was featrured on EP 822 FYI. Thanks for the post!
