Hi guys, just finished my first medicinal harvest here in Illinois, and you all have helped me greatly in getting to the finish line. So I have my mason jars ready to go with boveda packs, but I was wondering if using brown glass mason jars going forward might be better? I plan to keep the jars in the dark anyway, but if light is so bad for THC, then wouldn’t using mason jars that filter some of the light spectrum, be better for your weed overall? Similar to how brewers use brown and green bottles to protect their beer from light. Thanks for the advice.

You’re totally right about the brown glass. If it’s going in a cabinet it doesn’t matter much though. Way more of our food products would be in brown glass but it doesn’t look as nice on the retail shelf. I worked at a gourmet olive oil shop and went over the issue of bottle color vs ceramic or stainless on a daily basis. Our tea vendor also said the brown jars were the best if you wanted to use glass. Also, keep your jars away from heat. Congrats on your first harvest! Have a nice day.

A recent study I made up proved that bud cured in color jars vs clear jars produced the exact same product.
Like mentioned above it will minimally preserve things. But they block the light which can degrade cannabinoids. The jars even mention they are designed to preserve herbs lol, ball catering to the cannabis crowd.
Yup in a perfect world the brown uv blocking glass jars are the way to go. But here in the real world they also cost way more. I often see 2 packs of brown jars for the same price as a 6 pack of the clear ones.
If you are only filling up a few jars, investing in some nice brown jars is a good idea, but if you are dealing with several pounds you are probably going to want to stick with the cheaper clear glass jars.
If you are keeping them in the dark it doesn’t really matter.
I actually use the big clear jars for storing all my bud that’s locked up in storage, but I have a set of smaller brown jars that I use for my daily smoking needs.
So the jars I store my pounds in are clear and stored in the dark, and my daily smoking jars that I leave out are brown glass for a little extra protection. 🙂👍
