Hello all from a non home grow ass state (Florida),
I have a Do-Si-Do in veg that I want to flip to flower. It is in a 2×2 tent and I am worried about height. I have been scrogging it and will include some pics. I just want to scrog it enough to fill the tent but don’t want it to outgrow the tent. I will also include trichome pics of a Double Alien from La Plata Labs that is close but not quite there yet. I am thinking at least one more week, but would like someone elses opinion. People say harvest time affects the effect of the strain.
Thank you all and to all a good buzz,
JinxCat
For the stretch in the 2×2, you can top the plant as you train it laterally in the scrog net. But that strain does stretch, at least double the height of when you flip. Training will be your friend.
As far as “when to harvest”, To determine when to harvest, you will want to look at the trichomes on the buds. You are looking at the color of the round head of the trichome.
General rule of thumb is to harvest when you have 10% amber, 80% milky and 10% clear trichome heads. After a few harvests, you may find your own preference.
The amber heads are reported to have more of a sedative, body effect. The clear heads have been reported as being more cerebral and energetic high. Either way, you’ll want the majority to be milky.
These effects can be attributed to the maturation process of cannabinoids within the trichome heads. True they will continue to mature slightly as they hang dry. The milky to amber is a visual representation of the THCa turning into CBNa.
Do be sure to check the buds and not the leaves. Trichomes on the leaves will mature faster than the buds, so they aren’t the most accurate ripeness indicator you can use. However, they can be a good visual indicator as to when you might need to begin your flush if you choose to do so.
Using a jewelers loupe is preferred, but many times you can use the camera on your phone to get a close up and clear picture of your trichome heads.
Enjoy the journey!
Another little tip is to keep your night time temps as close the the day time temps as this will reduce stretch to a degree.
Make sure you defol that cannopy ask the stretch happens. Once a week for the first 3 weeks. Air flow is your friend!!! These newer LED lights will allow you to let the plant get right up on them. Also don’t be afraid to turn the light down if they get to close. Another key is learning the strain and her stretch, it allows you to train with purpose and you’ll know when the plant does it’s little keys at certain points that will give you you indication. It comes with working the plant and learning her
One sidenote about the plants getting right up to the LED lights…you might notice a single top or two tops seem to get larfy rounded leaves…a guy I know put his light meter near those buds and said the spectrum had almost no red near the larfy buds while the normal looking buds were in a location to get more red light…so if you have some brands of light the red diodes are spaced so widely a bud can almost completely hide from the reds as it gets closer and closer…and then you start growing a top that will be harsh and have the potency of dry iceberg lettuce…a good reason to rotate your pots a little bit each day if you got buds up on the lights.
So if you have a light meter and you see problems with larf, maybe check your spectrum around that bud.
Everyone has you in a good direction. A couple added things. The perfect maturity for those triches is hard to see so as Chad said you need a loupe. When the base of the head begins to shrink, as if the head is being pinched from the stalk at the basal cell. Is when they have reached full resin content. But be sure to watch the percentage of amber triches. Frenchie liked to let them go mostly amber to achieve max resin content. Great for hash but it makes a sleepy flower (CBNa🖕🏼). Just be aware that several things can affect the color of them prematurely. If that have been touched or high heat or heavy wind among other things can turn the color. Good rule of thumb is never fondle the merchandise. If you want to test tactile response and smell of triches be sure to rub on a sugar leaf and not a bract. Keep it growing on!✊🏼
I don’t see any pics of you scrogging or of your trichome

I have a hard time uploading pics. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.
